Vacancy Overview

Our 12 month Industrial Placements provide an excellent opportunity for those looking to move into a commercial environment and gain an insight into life and work at EDF Energy. You will be provided with challenging assignments, with opportunities in our Customers and Generation business areas.

We’re looking for talented undergraduates with influencing skills and a strong commercial focus to join us in achieving our ambition – improving performance and customer service. At the end of your placement, you may even be offered the opportunity to be assessed for our graduate schemes.

Nature and Scope

On the Commercial Placement Scheme, you will use your own knowledge to work on current projects whilst developing new skills to drive results and future strategy.

The Customers business have opportunities working on our digital channels which are already the principal customer contact route, and we aim to group digital’s volume, breadth and quality in line with our aim to place digital and date at the centre of activity. You will be required to develop innovative solutions to underpin our ambition to deliver over 80% of customer contacts online, grow mobile penetration and create new propositions and services in Smart and Connected Homes. You will need to have an understanding of digital technologies as well as good data analytical skills.

There are opportunities available in our Blue Lab using data skills including big data analytics, machine learning, automation and Al development. The ability to analyse and act on data is critical in today’s highly competitive energy market. You will get the chance to work on relevant and immediate business challenges with exposure to the full lifecycle from the identification of a challenge through to delivery of a business outcome.

The Generation business has an opportunity in the Design Authority Human Factors area who provide technical advice to the Company’s power stations and corporate functions on key safety and commercial issues to ensure human factor issues are assessed and adequately addressed in plant operations, safety cases and design projects. The team provide advice to achieve improved human performance during different operational stages. You will be working on various projects, gaining an insight into the nuclear industry and real life application of your psychology knowledge.

- Hove (Digital and Data)

It’s worth noting that we don’t offer relocation help for Industrial Placements. So if the placement you’re applying for isn’t in your local area, you’ll need to be able to cover the cost of moving to and living there yourself.
 

Principal Accountabilities

We have high expectations for the students we take on: we’re looking for people at any stage of their university education who are genuinely interested in the energy sector, and who want to take ownership of their experience on the placement.

The successful candidate will have good communication skills, and demonstrate a willingness to learn. They will have an ability to interact within a team environment, display professionalism within a work setting and have both a questioning and challenging attitude. Of key importance is a willingness to get involved with various tasks, and provide support as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

- Studying towards a digital design, computer science, maths, data analysis, statistics, engineering or related degree for our Customers Placements or a Psychology related degree for our Generation Placements.
- On track to achieve or will have already achieved a 2:1 undergraduate degree or 2:2 postgraduate qualification
- Technical and analytical skills

- Desire to learn and develop
