Visitor Centre Co-ordinator

18 Months Fixed Term

 

The post of Visitor Centre Coordinator exists at a number of EDF’s nuclear power stations to support Nuclear Operation’s commitment to supporting our local communities to understand the work we do and to encourage young people to consider a career in STEM (science, engineering, maths or science).

 

The Opportunity

 

The primary post will be to build a relationship of trust and openness with internal and external stakeholders and will be responsible for leading a team of visitor centre tour guides.

 

The coordinator will be the point of contact for all stakeholders visiting Heysham visitor centre and will organise and help facilitate plant tours and educational visits.

 

The post holder will develop awareness of Nuclear’s essential role in the energy mix, EDF Energy’s contribution to its local communities, its commitment to the highest standards of safety and contribution to society, and the skills, experience, and expertise that enable the Company to play a pivotal role in nuclear new build.

What you’ll be doing

 

  • The Visitor Centre Coordinator is accountable to both Heysham 1, Heysham 2 and corporate functions and reports to Heysham 1 Performance Improvement department for day-to-day line management.
  • The post also requires close liaison with other member of the Nuclear Generation visitor centre teams, community liaison and internal communications team, media team, security, community investment and Nuclear New Build communications colleagues.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Heysham visitor centre organising tours and liaising with visitor groups to facilitate their needs.
  • Lead, develop and organise a team of visitor centre tour guides to meet the centre’s demand and to deliver a complete visitor experience.
  • Forward plan, organise, market and deliver an agreed annual visitor centre plan and events programme, ensuring it’s aligned to the Nuclear Operation’s community liaison plan.
  • Develop strong links with and manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the face and voice representing Heysham 1 and 2 and EDF during daily activities.
  • Develop and lead a specific educational outreach programme working with local schools, universities and colleges to promote STEM careers and explain nuclear power.
  • Maintain close coordination with other activities across the Company by participating in and reporting through monthly.
  • Visitor Centre reports, calls and the sharing of plans and calendars.
  • Conduct customer satisfaction feedback activities to check these fit with EDF’s company aims and ambitions.
  • Work to develop classroom-based sessions which fit with the needs of the visitor groups (e.g., key stage activities for school groups)
  • Develop volunteering and other community opportunities to promote the stations in the community alongside both Community Liaison Officers
  • Maintain the safety and security of visitor groups, station staff and reinforce station and EDF policies and processes at all times.

 

Who you are 

 

  • Experience of leading a team is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, highly motivated and enthusiastic
  • The visitor centre co-ordinator is often presented with unexpected situations, where quick thinking, good judgment and diplomacy is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Able to identify, develop and continuously improve practices and processes.
  • A sense of personal ownership and accountability, and evidence of the ability to work well independently.
  • Competent and keen to learn about the Nuclear Industry Business and commercial awareness.
  • A methodical, motivated and customer-focused approach to work
  • Friendly, approachable and confident manner
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Confident and courteous when dealing with team members and internal and external customers.
  • Copes well working on a number of different tasks – sometimes with conflicting deadlines.
  • Utilises appropriate decision making and problem-solving tools and techniques.
  • Ability to juggle number of tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Able to set clear standards and expectations to ensure attitudes and behaviours align with EDF safety standards, culture and values.
  • To be successful in this post, the co-ordinator will need enthusiasm, drive and the determination to support the stations to be operationally safe and successful as well as excellent communication skills, demonstrated under challenging conditions.

Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties.

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
