The Opportunity

 

An opportunity exists for a Training Specialist 10-month maternity cover secondment based at Heysham 1 Power Station. The Training Specialist provides initial and ongoing coaching and feedback, they give guidance on training related matters reinforcing the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) methodology and instructor fundamentals, they ensure our training material and instructors are utilising the best possible training methods whilst reinforcing Human Performance and Nuclear Safety Culture traits.

What you’ll be doing

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing training oversight at Heysham 1 Power Station.
  • Acting as the training conscience, ensuring training processes adhere to company standards.
  • Providing advice and guidance on relevant training matters with particular reference to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations and station training objectives.
  • Providing oversight of training programme health through the production of key performance indicators and programme health reports.
  • Providing insights into programme health through the monitoring, trending and analysis of key performance indicators, self-assessments, benchmarking, observations and trend reports.
  • Providing support to station initiatives/programmes, including the Instructor Training Programme, through active participation in a Training Specialist Peer Group.
  • Providing instructional review for training materials, ensuring high quality with effective and creative methodology; as well as adherence to company standards.
  • Mentoring and advising Instructors, Training Programme Owners and Training Committee Members in applying the Systematic Approach to Training.
  • Acting as a performance coach for instructors by observing training sessions and giving feedback.
  • Producing and delivering continuing training for instructors, incorporating adult learning theory, remote and in person delivery techniques incorporating the affective learning domain.
  • Deputising for the training group head as required.

 

Who you are

 

  • Previous experience of applying and overseeing training methodologies, such as systematic approach to training, on a nuclear power station is a must.
  • You will have a minimum of a HNC qualification with experience of implementing adult education theory and practice. A degree in a relevant subject would be advantageous, as well as the desire to develop your skillset further.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the needs of quality, with evidence of operating in a high-quality environment is essential, as well as a good understanding of the need for training governance and oversight.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to give advice on best practice and procedures.
  • You will have the ability to develop close working relationships with key stakeholders and influence the organisation at all levels to help drive engagement with training within the line.
  • You will have high levels of integrity and be capable of challenging all levels of the organisation on deficiencies within the station’s training programs.
  • You will be extremely organised and have the ability to multi-task and juggle different priorities, working well independently with the capability to influence without direct authority, using your own initiative.
  • You will demonstrate an understanding of continuous improvement and be adaptable and flexible in your approach such as supporting different disciplines or advising and challenging at all levels of the organisation.
  • You will have the ability to think creatively and coach on creative solutions for engaging training.

Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties.

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
