System Engineer - Steam and Rotating Plant

Vacancy Overview

A permanent Engineering Support Personnel position is available within Steam and Rotating Plant Engineering Group working as a System Engineer. Currently with opportunities available within a number of systems; Essential Diesel Generators, Condensate and Water Treatment Plant, Instrument and General Service Air, Main Cooling Water Systems. Final allocation will be made based on strength and experience of the candidate and may change based on future business need.   

This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who wish to pursue an Engineering career working within power stations Balance of Plant; a very diverse mix and operationally critical engineering systems designed to operate reliably 24/7 and encompass some of the largest plant  components. 

The successful candidate will have a relevant core discipline (Mechanical Eng / Chemical Eng / C&I) and will be expected to operate in a cross disciplinary role.  

As part of the Engineering Personnel Population, flexibility to potentially undertake a different Engineering role in the future based on business needs would be advantageous.

The Person
  • An awareness of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements ensuring that all activities are carried out with full regard to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations and Company standards.
  • An ability to build effective networks and negotiate and influence effectively towards the achievement of business objectives.
  • An ability to manage projects from low to high complexity, managing and leading diverse multi-disciplined teams.
  • To maintain and develop knowledge within the candidate’s core discipline whilst cross skilling into other disciplines, taking responsibility for your own training and development.
  • To develop and maintain knowledge of the plant and systems and act as system engineer with responsibility for the equipment reliability of assigned systems using the core Fleet Engineering and Equipment reliability processes.
  • Conduct system reviews and draw up improvement plans and set maintenance strategies in line with safety and performance requirements and taking into account equipment failure investigations, performance monitoring, equipment ageing and obsolescence, and sustainability.
  • Ensure single point vulnerabilities and critical equipment is identified and that the correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures.
  • Where plant issues are identified provide technical expertise and knowledge to troubleshooting activities ensuring robust corrective actions are in place to correct issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Act as the Responsible Engineer for your plant systems to support the Maintain Design Integrity Process.
  • Actively participate in the Work Week Management and Outage work planning processes providing engineering technical input as required, ensuring prioritisation of work is based on the criticality of equipment and its potential impact on plant performance from safety, reliability and efficiency perspectives.
The Skills
  • The minimum qualification for this application is HNC (or equivalent).
  • Candidates with a relevant Degree qualification may have an advantage.
  • A background in nuclear power plant operations, engineering or technical and safety discipline would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Training will be provided based on existing experience.
