Plant Computing Engineer

The Opportunity

 

Plant Computing Engineer, Morecambe, Salary from £32,535 to £58,941

 

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Plant Computing Engineer within the Protection & Electrical Systems Group and Heysham A Power Station. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to pursue a career in high integrity engineering working on systems designed to operate reliably 24/7. The group’s main responsibilities include engineering support of the stations plant computing systems which use a wide range of technologies. This post will be of interest to those with an instrumentation and/or electronics background. 

 

Being part of a motivated and skilled Plant Computing team, you will report to the Protection and Electrical Systems Group Head to ensure the long term health and availability of our systems are maintained. This will include:

 

•    Management of aging and obsolescence programmes, including upgrading and deploying new systems and technologies
•    Undertaking fault diagnosis and rectification on various plant computer and control systems
•    Software and/or hardware modifications including safety justifications as per company process

 

Training will be provided to perform the required role and further develop the candidate to perform wider ranging tasks in support of nuclear generation 

The Person

 

We are looking for an individual who possess a robust understanding of electronics or computer engineering principles. This role does involve close interaction with stakeholders to ensure high availability of the plant computer and support systems, which are essential control and indication systems required for safe operation of a nuclear power plant. 

 

The duties of the successful applicant will initially be based on the individual’s skills, knowledge and experience. This will include: 

 

•    As the system engineer you will provide technical advice
•    Perform regular monitoring and reviews to ensure equipment reliability 
•    Management of contractors.
•    Ensuring the ongoing security of plant computer systems is maintained.
•    Liaising with relevant Departments when required to make improvements. 
•    Actively engage in the risk-based system reviews to support investment plans 

The Skills

 

As a minimum, applicants will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent). Applicants with a relevant Degree may have an advantage.

 

Ideally applicants will possess:


•    Knowledge of instrumentation and control, engineering and maintenance aspects of plant systems.
•    Excellent communication and organisational skills; able to develop relationships and foster team working
•    Applicants should be self-motivated possessing an analytical approach with realistic “can do” problem solving ability.
•    PLC or plant computing system knowledge may be advantageous.

Competitive Salary & Benefits

 

The salary range associated with this role is £32,535 to £69,861; however, the starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £32,535 to £58,941 dependent on the successful candidate's competence, experience and qualifications. Progression within the range will be subject to the acquisition / use of enhanced competences, however, progression beyond this appointment range will be subject to business needs. .  You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency based progression, a career average company pension scheme, access to benefits including gym membership, cinema tickets, technology offers and cycle to work scheme.
