The Opportunity

 

As the next Operate Technician, you will be a valued member of the station at Heysham 1 to ensure the daily operations of the station run smoothly and offer the best performance possible. You will be responsible for the safe and reliable operations of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices. You will also be required to perform Emergency Scheme duties where you will receive full training.

What you’ll be doing

 

Working as part of a Shift Team and under the direction of an experienced Team Leader and Shift manager; you will be responsible for the ensuring that plant and equipment is monitored and maintained in accordance with strict procedures and directives. We take safety very seriously in the nuclear industry and you will need to adopt a safety-first approach to everything that you do, taking ownership of issues and actively seeking help when needed.

 

Being appointed into this position, you will be required to complete the following roles to ensure the smooth running and operations on site.

 

These include: 

  • Monitoring plant conditions, identifying & resolving sub-standard conditions through work requests, performing minor tool pouch maintenance and reporting civil defects through the helpdesk processes.
  • Responding to requests from the control room to investigate plant alarms and perform required operations.
  • Control and closely monitor plant and equipment to support the process by following procedures.
  • Apply conservative decision-making techniques and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Show a solid understanding of plant operation, design and theory (comprehensive training will be provided)
  • Investigate and rectify plant faults within your own area of demonstrated competence.
  • Carry out minor maintenance and health physics monitoring as required by the process.
  • As a member of the onsite Emergency Response Team you will be trained in breathing apparatus, firefighting, casualty rescue, first aid, confined space entry and working at height.

Who you are

 

As the next Operate Technician, you will hold the following skills and experiences to be suitable for the role: 

  • Experience of Mechanical, engineering, operational or process work with supporting qualifications
  • Good level of computer literacy i.e., able to use Word, Excel and bespoke systems.
  • Strong understanding of general literacy i.e., able to read and follow written process instructions and complete paperwork accurately.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Have a willingness to broaden their knowledge base, a flexible approach to work and willingness to undertake a continuing training programme.
  • Able to work as part of a small team and cross functionally with other departments. 

As a minimum, entrants will be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent). 

 

Closing date for applications: Tuesday April 30th      

An Assessment Centre will be held week commencing Monday May 20th     

 

Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties.

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
