Nuclear Materials Control Officer

An opportunity exists for the role of Nuclear Materials Control Officer (Facility Safeguards Accountant) within the Fuel Route department at Heysham 1 Power Station. This key position will support the Recording and Management of nuclear material onto, around and off site as appropriate.

The Opportunity

 

The Nuclear Materials Control Officer will work with a small team which is part of the Fuel Route department.

 

The role holder is responsible for the recording of nuclear material as it moves on to, around and off site. The role holder will have a thorough understanding of what constitutes in –scope material. as well as what information needs to be recorded, and how to do so in a compliant manner. The role holder will also be responsible for raising issues if identified and may be required to assist the Facility Safeguards Accounting lead in their resolution, as well as the routine tasks such as reporting in line with corporate and regulatory requirements.

What you’ll be doing

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure facility processes are followed and maintained to account for all relevant nuclear material, in line with national and international regulations, as well as supporting and facilitating regulatory audits from a facility perspective where required.
  • Inputting and accurately recording information on in-scope nuclear material within the NuMAS (Nuclear materials and accountancy system) in line with facility and fleet processes.
  • Assist the Facility Safeguards Accounting Lead in compiling and send facility NMAC reports to the regulator in a timely manner to ensure compliance with the relevant national/international regulations.
  • Obtain and share OPEX with relevant stakeholders.
  • Use NuMAS as a SQEP user and in accordance with training/processes. This includes testing of NuMAS software changes specific to site within the facility’s remit.
  • Ensure that facility material balances and NMAC reportable information is accurate.
  • Liaise with Facility Safeguards Accounting Lead and nuclear safeguards regulator (ONR) on issues affecting the facility as appropriate.
  • Raise and assist in resolving issues in a timely manner and in line with company and regulatory expectations.
  • Responsible for ensuring inputs to the NuMAS system is appropriate and accurate.
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality of information relating to NMAC on site is sufficiently high.

 

Who you are

 

As a minimum entrants will be educated to GCSE / National Qualification Standards (or equivalent). Candidates with these qualifications that include “4” and above grade passes in English and Mathematics will have an advantage.

 

The applicant will need to have to be a logical thinker, be able to have an understanding of the fuel route plant process (full training will be provided) and be able to integrate into a multi – disciplined team.

 

Two years fuel route experience or a broad knowledge at a nuclear power station would be desirable.

Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties.

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
