Fuel Route Systems Engineer

We’re recruiting for a Systems Engineer to join our team at Heysham 1 Power Station and it might just be for you!


The opportunity


This position offers an excellent opportunity if you’re looking to pursue a career in high integrity engineering working on complex plant and systems designed to operate reliably 24/7. Monitoring the performance of systems required for cooling and handling nuclear fuel is a key part of the role, alongside providing technical oversight of modifications and projects where nuclear safety must be managed as an overriding priority. A background in Control and Instrumentation or Electrical engineering is preferable, however, Process or Mechanical engineering experience will also be considered and is important.

We can offer a competitive salary from £40,069 - £71,779 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. This position is a permanent, onsite based role.

What you’ll be doing


In this role, you’ll carry out the following day-to-day tasks:

  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of the plant and systems and acting as system manager with responsibility for the equipment reliability of fuel route systems
  • Ensuring critical equipment is identified and that correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures
  • Overseeing the System Health reviews, developing short to long term engineering solutions, defining Maintenance Policy, Maintenance Schedule changes, managing the PSR and lifetime management processes on their assigned systems
  • Monitoring and evaluating system performance using feedback from Operations and Maintenance and by conducting Plant Walkdowns of assigned systems
  • Ensuring the Station Maintenance strategy is aligned with plant needs and adjustments are made to the strategy as required to enhance Equipment Reliability
  • Providing technical expertise and knowledge to troubleshooting activities, ensuring robust corrective actions are in place to correct issues and prevent reoccurrence
  • Responsibility for projects from low to high complexity involving diverse multi-disciplined teams
  • Actively participating in the on-line and outage work planning process, providing engineering technical input.


Who you are


You’ll hold a HNC in a relevant disciple as a minimum; a degree and a desire to achieve Chartered status would be advantageous. As a Fuel Route Systems Engineer you’ll have an awareness of relevant legal and regulatory framework and compliance requirements ensuring that all activities are carried out with full regard to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations and company standards. You should also be able to build effective networks and negotiate and influence effectively towards the achievement of business objectives.
