Fuel Route Systems Engineer

Do you want to play a part in enhancing performance and reliability of equipment used within the Fuel Route at Heysham 1 Nuclear Power Station. If so, we are now recruiting for two Systems Engineers to join Fuel Route Team.

 

The Opportunity

 

This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to pursue a career in high integrity engineering working on complex plant and systems designed to operate reliably 24/7.  

 

A background in Control and Instrumentation or Electrical engineering preferable; however, those with Process or Mechanical engineering experience will also be considered for this role as a System Engineer.

 

You will report to the Fuel Route Engineering Group Head and be responsible for the reliability and performance of systems required for cooling and handling nuclear fuel.  A key function of the role is to provide technical oversight of modifications and projects where nuclear safety must be managed as an overriding priority.

What you’ll be doing

 

Alongside reporting to the Fuel Route Engineering Group Head, you will also carry out the following day-to-day tasks:

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the plant and systems and act as system manager with responsibility for the equipment reliability of fuel route systems using the core Fleet Engineering and Equipment Reliability processes.
  • Identify and proactively manage risk within the fuel route systems.
  • Ensure critical equipment is identified and that correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures.
  • Oversee the System Health reviews, developing short to long-term engineering solutions, defining Maintenance Policy, Maintenance Schedule changes, managing the PSR and lifetime management processes on their assigned systems.
  • Monitor and evaluate system performance using feedback from Operations and Maintenance and by conducting Plant Walk downs of assigned systems. 
  • Ensure the Station Maintenance strategy is aligned with plant needs and adjustments are made to the strategy as required to enhance Equipment Reliability
  • Provide technical expertise and knowledge to troubleshooting activities ensuring robust corrective actions are in place to correct issues and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Responsible for projects from low to high complexity involving diverse multi-disciplined teams.
  • Actively participate in the on-line and outage work planning process providing engineering technical input as required ensuring prioritisation of work is based on the criticality of equipment and its potential impact on plant performance from safety, reliability and efficiency
  • Maintain and develop knowledge within your relevant discipline taking responsibility for your own training and development.

 

Who you are 

 

The successful Fuel Route Systems Engineer will hold a HNC in a relevant discipline as a minimum; a degree and a desire to achieve Chartered status would be advantageous.

 

As a Fuel Route Systems Engineer, you will have an awareness of relevant legal and regulatory framework and compliance requirements ensuring that all activities are carried out with full regard to Site Licence requirements, statutory regulations and company standards.

 

You will also be ability to build effective networks and negotiate and influence effectively towards the achievement of business objectives.

 Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties. 

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
