Environmental Safety Technician

The Opportunity

 

We are currently recruiting in the Environmental Safety Team for an Environmental Safety Technician at our station in Heysham 1. An Environmental Safety Technician provides the radiological monitoring service which includes monitoring for levels of radiation and contamination in the work area. Other monitoring tasks that you will complete in this role include monitoring of items for release off site; sampling and analysis of effluents and active waste processing.

 

In this role you will be required to demonstrate a strong safety focus in all your day to day work and provide advice and guidance to others in the workplace. You will also be able to maximise effective use of time and work flexibly within your own range of competence. The successful candidate will be able to work well within a team environment but must also be able to operate independently when required.

The Role

 

As the next Environmental Safety Technician, you will be responsible for implementing the company standards across the station which includes defining the radiological controls for work within the RCA (via Radiological Work Permits), providing coaching to staff and contractors on radiological best practice as well as leading ALARP briefs and managing RP controls for higher risk activities. Other responsibilities will include:

 

  • Provide a radiological monitoring service which includes monitoring for levels of radiation and contamination in the work area.
  • Oher monitoring of items for release offsite; sampling and analysis of effluents and active waste processes.
  • Interaction with external regulators such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
  • You must prioritise safety and perform to a high level of standards in the area of radiological protection.

As our next Environmental Safety Engineer, we're looking for you to hold the following capabilities in order to complete this role:

Competitive Salary & Benefits

 

The salary range is between £27,101 - £35,962 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.  The starting salary for this appointment will be dependent of your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.  You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency-based progression and a Company pension scheme.
