Joining EDF's Environmental Safety Group Placement means becoming a key player in our Environmental Safety Group Teams. You'll be an integral part of daily operations, contributing to the enhancement of our function while mastering the essential procedural and contractual elements of the operational process.
You will get involved in a broad spectrum of areas, gain experience of team working, problem solving, using human performance tools and take part in Environmental Safety Group and Station related training. You will also have the exciting opportunity to work on plant operations and explore other areas of interest.

Training, development, and support for you
Over the course of this 12-month programme, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in hands-on learning, working on real-world challenges that directly impact the energy industry. Most of your learning will be on the job, supported by your mentor and the teams around you. You’ll have a chance to apply your academic training to genuine industry problems while completing modules that contribute towards your degree.
You'll gain in-depth experience within an Environmental Safety Group department at a nuclear power plant. You’ll learn about systems vital to the smooth operation of Environmental Safety, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies, and IT systems. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to see how other departments within the power station function, expanding your understanding of the broader industry.
During your placement, you could be involved in projects improving waste management processes for non-radioactive waste, performing routine monitoring and preparing regulatory reports for sea water usage and oil accountancy, collecting and managing data for UK Emissions trading scheme compliance and calibration and quality control of liquid scintillation counters and gamma spectrometers.

Your work location
You’ll be based on site at one of the Heysham Power Stations, within the Environmental Safety Group.
Who you are
We are looking for candidates who are on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Maths, Physics, Science or Engineering. You should possess strong technical and analytical skills, along with a genuine desire to learn and develop new capabilities. A questioning attitude, good teamwork, and effective communication skills are also essential qualities.
