Environmental Compliance Coordinator

What you’ll be doing

 

As an Environmental Compliance Coordinator - your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the station management in championing environmental standards and expectations.
  • Take an active role in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the Environmental Improvement Plan and budgets.
  • Monitor compliance with all environmental permits, regulations and the ISO 14001 quality standard.
  • Support station management in their interface with external regulators such as the Environment Agency and Natural England.
  • Being the site custodian for environmental management standards and maintaining the environmental risk register. This will also involve physically observing and auditing environmental practices and coaching and implementing improvements as required.
  • Responsibility for completing a Compliance Evaluation Programme for the site covering all environmental areas.
  • Provision of technical advice on specialist environmental matters including discharges to water, combustion process activities, oil and chemical storage and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Supporting the sites defueling and decommissioning preparations including oversight of environmental permissioning for decommissioning and waste management planning activities.    

 

Who you are 

 

You will be qualified to degree level or HNC (or equivalent) in a science, environment or engineering discipline. Experience in environmental compliance or a similar environmental role is an advantage. At this level, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of environmental legislation relevant to a nuclear power station or a large industrial facility.

 

Essential competencies to perform this role include:

  • You will be confident communicator; sharing technical information with a range of internal customers/stakeholders across the power station and wider company.
  • You will consider safety as paramount importance with ability to work safely and to organise self and others, to work flexibly to deliver against a mix of short- and long-term targets, and to identify improvements to existing methods and procedures.
  • The drive to succeed in all formal on/off site training courses and work through training programmes with support of Group Head and mentors in order to achieve. 
  • You will be solutions focused working to resolve situations in new or unfamiliar circumstances and manage consequences of implementation of such solutions.

 Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties. 

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
