This is a unique Assistant Team Leader role within EDF’s Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group where delivering safe, reliable power is at the heart of our Generation Business. Your base location will be at our Heysham Power Station, however we support the UK wide fleet, as such travel to our other locations may at time be required.


The Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group carries out the maintenance of Steam Turbines, Generators and associated plant at Various EDF Sites. In the business you will be a member of the Operations Department reporting to the Operations Team Leader and work closely with Engineering, Work Management and Contract Partners, whilst maintaining a key interface with our Station Engineering Departments.


Your responsibilities as an Assistant Team Leader within the Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group will be to support the fleet’s turbine and generator assets.


 You will assist the Team Leader in leading and managing the team, taking responsibility for the safety, effectiveness, productivity and quality of work of the operations team you are supervising.

What you'll be doing


Your day-to-day duties will include:


Assisting the team leader and managing a team of Technicians & Semi Skilled Technicians to deliver plant maintenance. As well having a hands on role with maintenance.


Supporting your team to accomplish planned maintenance & emergent work requests within agreed time scales.


  • Responsible for the delivery of the workweek plans or outage plans.
  • Spending sufficient time in the field monitoring, observing and assessing Operations Technicians & Semi Skilled Technicians.
  • Actively performing & monitoring:
    • Setting to Work and pre-job briefs
    • Work practices
  • Supporting the daily priorities & clearly communicating these.
  • Reinforcing positive attitudes & nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and achieve a safe working environment of Zero Harm.
  • Supporting continuous improvement.


Who you are


Successful Assistant Team Leader’s within FT&M should have the following:


  • A HNC/D in a relevant technical discipline
  • A background in Maintenance with a working knowledge of Mechanical equipment for at least 1 year.
  • Substantial relevant experience in power station or a heavy industry field.
  • Works safely within company and legislative requirements, identifying hazards associated with work activities and working environments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Outage Management and Work Management Processes.
