The Volume Forecasting team is responsible for forecasting 50TWh of electricity demand, 6TWh or renewable generation and 1 billion therms of gas, valued at £3bn a year. Its primary focus is to minimise short-term imbalance cost and enable efficient forward hedging through the delivery of accurate long-term energy demand and renewable generation forecasts.

The Role

You, as the Volume Forecasting Senior Analyst will take a lead role in maintaining and developing forecasting models to minimise business costs and maximise forecast activity. You will also be transforming the use of forecasting data and systems in line with EDF’s IT and innovation ambitions of a migration to Cloud computing services.

You will be supporting stakeholders across the business particularly Sales and Marketing’s contract bidding and management activities; providing forecasts, supporting product development and any other activity to support those stakeholders. Alongside Sales and Marketing, other stakeholder groups include Finance, our Smart Metering Programme and EDF Group Research and Development to name a few. 

We will be expecting you to lead technical projects and activities by example, performing with a high level of autonomy and overseeing the work of Analysts. 

Principal Accountabilities


We are looking for people with the following: 


  • Degree or Masters in a quantative discipline (e.g Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering). A PhD would be advantageous 
  • Knowledge and experience of predictive modelling, times series analysis and regression
  • Experience using advanced statistical analysis and data manipulation techniques 
  • Programming skills in at least one of the following; R, Python, SAS (or similar) 
  • Familiarity with SQL databases and AWS would be an advantage 
  • Ideally knowledge of the UK Energy markets
