The Opportunity

 

Our exciting Sizewell C (SZC) project – a proposed new nuclear power station to be built on the Suffolk coast - would provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years which, along with renewables, will support Britain’s Net Zero aim by 2050.  


We now have an opportunity for a Sustainability Lead to drive the formation of the sustainability function and wider sustainability culture throughout SCZ. 
 

 

The Role

 

You’ll be responsible for managing the implementation of sustainability monitoring and reporting, and leading the development of company- wide sustainability strategy. 


Specifically, you’ll be accountable for: 

 

  • Providing strategic advice and expert guidance to the business on all aspects of sustainability and corporate responsibility, including:

 

  •         Social and environmental issues
  •         Ethics
  •         Procurement
  •         People policy
  •         Economic sustainability
  •         Communications and reporting

 

  • Developing sustainable organisational policies and practices
  • Acting as the ambassador and advisor for sustainability for internal and external stakeholders including supply chain, Government and the local community
  • Developing and building the sustainability team
  • Evaluating and approving proposals for sustainability projects
  • Writing project proposals, grant applications or other documents to secure funding for sustainability initiatives 
     

 

 

The Skills

 

To be successful in this role you’ll be able to demonstrate: 

 

 

  • Excellent understanding of key sustainability issues (preferably with specialist knowledge of social or environmental issues relevant to the construction industry, and ideally nuclear)
  • Knowledge of broad environmental issues and management systems (CEEQUAL, GRESB)
  • Understanding of best practice and leadership on sustainability
  • Project and change management experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills 


Desirable:

 

  • Experience in running the sustainability function in a large organisation
  • Experience working on the development or financing of similar nuclear projects
