This position is offered on a 12 month fixed-term contract basis with the possibility of the role becoming permanent once the project moves out of the development phase. Flexible working is available with expectations of 2 days a week in the London office.

As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF’s Nuclear New Build (NNB) team is leading an ambitious programme to build a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK, focussed on two new nuclear power stations, the first since Sizewell B in 1995. The first station is under construction at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset, and NNB’s ambition is to build a second at Sizewell C (SZC) in Suffolk. The SZC project is currently in the development phase, with UK public policy; financing; commercial and construction arrangements being established. The intention is to begin construction of the project at the end of 2022.

 

The Supply Chain directorate ensures ‘best value’ contractual arrangements between SZC and its supply chain aligned to the project delivery model, reflecting a fair balance of risk and promoting ‘Best for Project’ behaviours, decisions and outcomes.

The Role

 

Leading a team of up to 7, you will report into the Senior Supply Chain Lead - Governance, Data & Project Services and will own and manage the commercial relationship across the contracts within your portfolio. This includes procurement, contract management and supplier relationship management throughout the lifecycle of the contract.

 

Your portfolio will consist of circa 50 professional service, technical engineering and other framework contracts fulfilling project requirements falling outside of the main scope of the delivery programmes, with an expenditure of circa. £100m per annum.

 

You will proactively engage with internal stakeholders at all levels to understand their business strategy and requirements and work with key contacts to develop, obtain agreement for and deliver sourcing strategies & contracts to fulfil these requirements. Specifically your main accountabilities will be in the following areas:

 

Procurement - Define, develop, and obtain agreement for sourcing strategies to fulfil project requirements; Coordinate pre-tender market engagement; Prepare, publish, manage, evaluate, and negotiate Invitation to Tenders; Coordinate the formal award of contracts

 

Contract Management - Manage all contracts to minimise value leakage and ensure appointed suppliers deliver what they have agreed; Oversee the retention of comprehensive, well managed contractual records; Oversee the fair and on-time payment of suppliers; Manage the closure of contracts from initial completion to full commercial close.

 

Supplier Relationship Management – Enable controls to focus on key suppliers as prioritised by their supply risk vs value; Support effective collaboration between SZC and its suppliers to build trust and maximise the mutual value of the relationship; Support the identification, development and exploitation of innovation whilst maintaining an appropriate degree of ‘commercial tension’. 

 

Assurance & Continuous Improvement - Ensure that all supply chain activities are delivered in a controlled manner, consistent with the strategic objectives and defined minimum standards; Identify, communicate and act upon operational experience to ensure the adoption of best practice; Engage with relevant UK regulators (ONR/EA/Ofgem) as required to evidence regulatory compliance; Provide effective team management and leadership and support the professional development of team members.

The Skills

 

To be successful in this role, you be able to demonstrate:


•    An excellent understanding of procurement, contract management and supplier relationship management
•    A proven ability of working at a senior level within a complex major project/programme environment
•    Effective commercial management and leadership skills, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies in the UK environment
•    Excellent negotiating, influencing and communication skills
•    Experience of working in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders

 

Desirable:


•    Educated to degree level and a member of a professional body
•    Experience of standard forms of contract (NEC) within the power/construction industry on complex major projects/programmes
•    Familiar with the nuclear site licence conditions and the nuclear baseline philosophy
•    Understanding of the UK regulatory framework
•    Understanding of UK and international supply chain within the nuclear sector
•    Knowledge of English law and its impact upon the contract and commercial function
