The Opportunity
This could be the role you’ve always wanted! A brand-new opportunity awaits you as an experienced Skills and Capability Manager. This sits within our Chief People Officers team and your role would be to develop and deliver a skills strategy for EDF Renewables UK&I. Providing a skills anchor across the whole organisation, supporting external communications / promotions / Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development. In essence you’ll be leading the way for our skills approach.
We require someone who is already doing this role in a corporate environment, ideally in the renewables space. We are looking for someone who can operate with ambiguity, ruthlessly prioritise, executing to a high standard. You would be expected to lead on a newly created focus area for our business, identify trends and insights and develop solutions that truly set us up with the skills and capabilities to support our ambitious and exciting growth agenda.

What you’ll be doing
In our growing business you’ll be leading on the development and delivery of our organisational learning and development strategy, ensuring learning is aligned to strategic priorities. You’ll build the effectiveness and capability of managers and colleagues and develop operational effectiveness and high performance in everything that we do.
- Identify critical skills areas of focus for the business and deliver strategies to reduce organisational skills gap risks.
- Manage the Operational training delivery team, identifying improved ways of working, monitoring and budgetary accountability.
- Act as the Learning & Development Intelligent customer for EDF-RE when dealing with external organisations.
- Establish a roadmap and support on workforce planning to secure the necessary pipeline of talent to deliver the business’s growth ambitions, identifying key interventions by government and industry.
- Deliver a programmatic structured approach to skills development for the industry, including a critical analysis of the current Sector Deal. This should include working with external stakeholders and delivering a partnership approach.
- Partner with Renewable UK/ Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) and other sector governing bodies on a regional, national and international stage and build trust with the industry for skills development and approach.
- Lead the annual reporting and implementation of key recommendations of our Skills outcomes and performance.
- Anticipate future market requirements such as development of floating wind and hydrogen production and ensure business awareness and preparedness. Contribute to wider industry matters including skills development in onshore wind, electrification, and hydrogen.
- Manage the business approach to Skills promotion in community areas in collaboration with EDF UK, External Affairs, Strategy and other development teams.
- Define and manage the business wide approach to future Skills, (Graduates and Apprentices) working alongside the Talent and Acquisition functions and others to steer a strategic direction in this space aligned to current and future skills requirements of the business.
What do you need to be great at this role?
Business Knowledge and Experience
- A background in, or significant skills knowledge from a national, regional or industry perspective.
- Ability to develop effective relationships and build credibility with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Good written and oral briefing skills, showing an ability to tailor a subject matter to the audience.
- Knowledge of and practical experience using Project Management principles in an environment that is delivering change.
- Can provide independent review of theory and approaches others have used.
- Proven record of using initiative and making sound judgements.
- Understands all the aspects that are needed to create and deliver against a plan
- Demonstrable experience of leading system changes across a matrixed organisation, using a variety of different change adoption methods
- Ability to facilitate, coach and present confidently at senior level both internally and externally
- Can provide specific advice on projects and/or programmes of work
- Ability to quickly establish personal credibility and impact, building effective and lasting relationships
- Good overview of renewable energy with particular focus on wind energy and wind farm developers or suppliers.
- Experience of working with and developing complex policy.
- Experience representing an organisation and policy position at working to senior level meetings.
- Can build and hold responsibility for client relationships on projects, developing services to meet their needs.
