This is an exciting chance to be at the forefront of what will be some of the most significant changes in recent times.

Sitting in our Wholesale Markets Optimisation team which is responsible for adding value and managing risk around the integrated portfolio of assets and customers, securing the gas and electricity needs of our residential and business customers. You will be a member of the Short-Term Trading and Wholesale Markets Optimisation management team and therefore jointly responsible for the development and operational execution of its long-term goals & strategy.

All wholesale market activity is carried out in accordance with the Risk Mandate, maximising value within risk limits, and you will work closely with the Market Risk Team to ensure that the appropriate Risk/Reward is being taken

Pay, benefits and culture...
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a market-leading company pension scheme, paid holidays with ability to buy additional holiday and a range of flexible benefits, such as: a company incentive bonus plan, cycle to work scheme, electric vehicle scheme, health cover option, gym membership, discounts and employee pricing.

Due to the nature of the role, you’ll be based at our London office, 90 Whitfield Street with some flexibility.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We’re an equal opportunity and disability confident employer. If you feel comfortable sharing with us that you have a disability, you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we will guarantee you an interview.

We’ll value the difference you bring and give you opportunities to thrive and succeed and to feel you belong.

The opportunity…

As a Senior Manager of Shift Trading you’ll be responsible for managing, motivating and developing a team of 15 Shift Traders to deliver maximum value from trading in the prompt market and optimising EDF’s dynamic and broad portfolio consisting of Nuclear and CCGT generators, our growing Battery and Gas Peaker interests and Renewable generation Solar/Wind. You’ll maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Energy Trading Services, EDFT, National Grid and market interface operators.

The Senior Manager of Shift Trading will have full autonomy on matters of operations, whilst strategy & direction will be formed in conjunction with the Head of Short-Term Trading. You’ll maintain a partnering approach with colleagues in the Risk, Finance and Compliance functions, ensuring cross-functional learning and understanding is maintained at every level along with ensuring that safety, security and environmental protection are constantly driven at the highest possible intensity in line with the company’s Zero Harm philosophy.

A key element of the role will be the requirement to maintain excellent operational processes, ensuring robustness without the loss of flexibility and perhaps most crucially, you will take on the responsibility for helping your Traders to grow & develop both their skills and knowledge but also support them in their long-term career aspirations.

What we’re looking for…

Being a Senior Manager of Shift Trading at EDF means you’ll have excellent knowledge of GB wholesale power and gas markets and significant experience in short term trading and operations. In addition, understanding of risk management techniques and measures, with the ability to balance operational complexity against the risk management benefits derived from precise hedging.

As a Senior Manager of Shift Trading you’ll be customer focussed and have an understanding of changing business and financial environment. You’ll have good knowledge of wholesale market regulations including REMIT, ETR, Market Abuse Regulation and have strong commercial acumen, customer focus and the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
