Senior Investment Analyst

Location: London, a hybrid working environment is encouraged with no more than 2 days per week in the office
Employment type: The role will initially be offered on a 12 month fixed-term contract basis

The Opportunity

 

Our exciting Sizewell C (SZC) project – a proposed new nuclear power station to be built on the Suffolk coast - would provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years which, along with renewables, will support Britain’s Net Zero aim by 2050.  


As Senior Investment Analyst, you’ll be responsible for the update and development of various modelling tools used by the SZC Finance function, in support of the Investment Case for our new build projects. In particular, you’ll be developing the Risk Model that is used to evaluate the impact of construction overruns and schedule delay for SZC, as part of a robust investment case to secure a positive investment decision for the project in 2022.

The Role

 

You’ll be working as part of the Valuation and Modelling (V&M) team developing financial models and analysis for the SZC project to support ongoing negotiations with UK government and potential investors on a new, innovative revenue and financing structure. You’ll be collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders and presenting analysis to the senior management team on the investment case to facilitate key investment decisions.


Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:

 

  • Updating and developing the SZC Investment Case financial model and preparing cost and economic assumptions 
  • Analysing and presenting the results of the Investment Case to senior management and other key stakeholders
  • Supporting negotiations on the revenue and financing contractual framework for the project
  • Updating and developing models used by the Cost Estimating team, including the Risk Model
  • Supporting modelling and reporting activities related to other new build projects

The Skills

 

To be successful in this role you’ll be able to demonstrate:

 

  • A strong academic record with an emphasis on a quantitative or numerate discipline
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of building and operating large and complex financial models, ideally in a project finance transaction context
  • Strong analytical and commercial skills and experience of presenting analysis work at a senior level 
  • Experience in and a strong understanding of UK Energy Markets, specifically pricing and regulatory frameworks
  • Advanced Excel skills, including VBA


Desirable:

 

  • Experience in construction related risk analysis techniques
