Senior Adviser Policy & Regulation

The Opportunity

Our Net Zero, Strategy and Policy directorate is a strategic function critical to developing and managing the business. It forms part of the Finance Directorate which is one of the Corporate Functions within EDF in the UK and forms a crucial business service for the Nuclear Operations, New Nuclear organisations and wider EDF Group.

As our Senior Advisor in the Market Rules team you’ll become the subject matter expert, providing advice and guidance on various market rules (e.g. the industry codes, network charging, capacity market and system ancillary services) to the business. You’ll manage risks and create value added opportunities to lead in the shaping of market rules.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a starting salary of £70,000 (negotiable depending on experience) and a market-leading pension scheme, we offer a range of flexible benefits to support our people across all aspects of their lives.

Your rewards package includes a choice of benefits, such as electric vehicle leasing, enhanced parental leave, health insurance, discounts and employee pricing.

Whilst your base office will be in London, we’ll support you to work flexibly from home (providing a suite of IT equipment), whilst coming together on site to offer face to face support and collaboration on a weekly basis.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing

We’re seeking an enthusiastic self-starter who excels at prioritising tasks, working collaboratively, and adapting to project-based environments. As a Senior Advisor, you’ll be the go-to expert on market rules that support the electricity wholesale market like industry codes, network charging, capacity markets, and system ancillary services. You’ll work closely with the business to manage risks, create value, and lead efforts to shape market rules.

With a proactive mindset and innovative approach, you’ll identify opportunities to reform market rules aligned with our strategic goals. You’ll communicate complex issues clearly and impactfully across all levels, providing expert advice, updates, and recommendations to support business activities.

You'll represent the company in key industry forums and meetings with the National Energy System Operator, OFGEM, and government. Additionally, you’ll support the wider Net Zero, Strategy and Policy team as needed, with responsibilities evolving alongside internal and external priorities.

If you're a clear communicator and strategic thinker ready to make an impact, we'd love to hear from you!

Who you are

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Advisor for the Market Rules team with a strong focus on detail and exceptional communication abilities to simplify and convey complex information. This role requires close collaboration with both internal teams and external stakeholders, so proven experience in establishing and maintaining robust working relationships is essential.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to quickly grasp and navigate intricate subjects while influencing key decision-makers. You should have experience in identifying and managing both risks and opportunities effectively, showcasing a deep understanding of the energy market, with a preference for knowledge of industry regulations governing wholesale and capacity markets.

Key skills include advanced analytical and numerical proficiency, with a rigorous commitment to accuracy and quality. You should also be capable of contributing strategic value through forward-thinking and innovative approaches, identifying emerging business risks and opportunities.

This position demands the ability to work independently and flexibly under pressure, managing multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines. A proactive mindset, along with strong verbal and written communication skills, will be essential in addressing new challenges and complex topics.

Additionally, a commitment to health, safety, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility is critical, as these values are integral to our company’s long-term success. If you thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment and are excited to apply your expertise, we encourage you to apply.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 25th September
