The Opportunity

As a Security Advisor, you will provide assurance of company security standards, security emergency management procedures, security investigations and codes of practice across the EDF Corporate Estate. You will also ensure the delivery of security services by third party service providers, including the provision of security guarding, access control, intruder alarm and security systems monitoring in accordance with third party contract(s), ensuring site management teams and EDF employees comply with EDF Security Policies and Procedures.

You will provide security assurance to EDF by conducting security audits and reviews of all EDF facilities, property, security suppliers, sites and business units within Corporate and Steering Functions. You will also conduct security incident investigations and be part of the Emergency Management Team at Bronze level.  In the absences of the Company Security Manager, the role holder will manage Corporate Security operations.  

Day to Day:

  • Be the first point of contact for Facilities Regional Property Managers/outsourced Facilities Managers, providing security subject matter expertise advice to site management, reporting of criminal and protest incidents, security emergency management, investigations, carry out physical site security assessments, attend meetings as required by the Company Security Manager and provide liaison with external security partners and agencies.  
  • Provide assurance of company security standards, Emergency Management Procedures (EMP’s) and Codes of Practice (COP’s) across the EDF Corporate Estate as well as provide security subject matter expertise advice to the operational business units and liaise with local police in relation to security incidents.
  • Provide local support for management and reporting of criminal and protest incidents and issues.
  • Carry out physical site security assessments as directed by the Security Manager, attend security meetings to represent EDF C&SF as well as liaise with security contract partners to ensure assurance of security provision across the estate.
  • Keep abreast of and ensure that service provider(s) are aware and operate to current EDF policies, procedures and guidelines at all designated locations. Compliance with EDF standards is imperative to the achievement of EDF ambitions for Health and Safety. 
  • Conduct security incident investigations and be a member of the emergency management team when required, at Bronze level.

The Skills

This role requires you to establish an effective working relationship with Regional Property Managers, Facilities Managers and Landlords across the estate and communicate with them on a regular basis therefore communication and relationship building is absolutely essential to your success in this role.

You will need to:


  • Have qualifications in Security Management and/or Physical Security Systems obtained from a recognised security body, such as the Security Institute and be highly experienced in the operation and management of integrated security systems.
  • Be an experienced security adviser, with the ability to conduct Site Security Assessments, Reviews, Threat & Risk Assessments and capable of reviewing site emergency plans, delivering clear and concise reports and communicating findings and recommendations.
  • Have experience of dealing with criminal or protest activity, including conducting security investigations as well as experience in planning, conducting security in liaison with contracted security services in the provision of corporate events, including VIP Security.
  • Be familiar with national security standards, energy industry regulation and GDPR data legislation.
  • Have sufficient calibre and integrity to be regarded as a point of reference by management interface within Contracted partners, colleagues and the management of the business units.
