The Opportunity

As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF’s Nuclear New Build (NNB) team is leading an ambitious programme to build a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK, focussed on two new nuclear power stations, the first since Sizewell B in 1995. The first station is under construction at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset, and NNB’s ambition is to build a second at Sizewell C (SZC) in Suffolk. The SZC project is currently in the development phase, with UK public policy; financing; commercial and construction arrangements being established. The intention is to begin construction of the project at the end of 2022.

We are currently looking for a Supply Chain Assistant to join the SZC project on a 12- month fixed term contract. This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to not only gain invaluable supply chain experience but also gain an insight in to the UK nuclear new build industry. 

The Role


Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, you will mainly be working in the Civils and Enabling Works team, providing commercial support to the Supply Chain Management team. You will work closely and pro- actively with other team members at all levels across SZC and HPC to ensure that the requirements of individual contracts and their impact on the overall SZC project are successfully delivered.  

You will have the following main accountabilities:

•    Preparing Invitation to Tender documentation in relation to specific procurement activities
•    Managing and monitoring progress of Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) and Invitation to Tenders (ITT’s)
•    Assessment and valuation of Contractor’s applications and the processing of payment certificates in accordance with the contractual terms and conditions
•    Administration of the Early Warning process
•    Ensuring contractual deliverables are met
•    Review of Contractor deliverables including where appropriate attending valuation and progress review meetings
•    Monitor and report on commercial aspects of the contract/ procurement activities and/ or flagging issues at the earliest opportunity to the Supply Chain Manager
•    Provision of advice and information on contract change including proposed scope changes, recommending appropriate action and producing required documentation
•    Preparation of commercial cost reports and progress measurement
•    Compilation of Supplier Performance and Lessons Learned reports
•    Administration of commercial management tools
•    Supporting the governance process within SZC

The Skills


To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

•    Relevant degree or equivalent work experience in contract administration
•    Experience of working as part of a team within a commercial environment
•    Experience of industry standard procurement practices
•    Strong working knowledge of contracts, basic estimating, valuations, cost reporting and financial modelling
•    Understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management and change and claim management
•    Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels
