The Opportunity

The role of an Originator is to provide support to the Principal Originators and Head of Structured Origination in defining the company approach to wholesale electricity markets, revenue models and corporate/utility off-takers.


You will help define optimum route-to-market and revenue management strategies and execute them, leveraging on a deep knowledge of electricity trading and commercial structuring.


The Originator supports the creation of opportunities for revenue generation and budget certainty as well as negotiating contracts to underpin investment decisions and which lead to the construction of pipeline assets. The role provides expertise to support our UK and Irish commercial efforts and market insight to identify new opportunities.

What you’ll be doing.


A key challenge for this role is to successfully secure route to market contracts in highly competitive tender processes run by third parties, in order to support the business’ growth objectives.


Other key areas of focus are to build and maintain productive working relationships with development teams to support our growth objectives and provide hedging analysis with recommendations to effectively manage our merchant exposures.

  • Originate new business opportunities, for example through partnerships and corporate and utility off-takers.
  • Monitor, influence and report to senior stakeholders on opportunities, policy and regulatory developments.
  • Negotiate contractual terms with third parties and EDF Energy’s Energy Business Solutions as well as engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to secure deals.
  • Contribute to Origination’s route to market strategy which includes the Contracts for Difference auction and identify value opportunities across the business.
  • Support in defining, setting and executing the hedging strategy for merchant exposures of the operational portfolio.
  • Monitor and analyse the market, supported by attending industry events and building strong networks.
  • Support the business by providing commercial, strategic and analytical advice to support the UK and Irish businesses.

 

What do you need to be great at this role?

As our Originator you will provide knowledge of demand, price and generation risks, risk management (hedging products and strategies) and market fundamentals.


You will also have:

  • Knowledge of the UK energy market, corporate sustainability needs and renewable energy.
  • Knowledge of wholesale energy markets, regulatory frameworks and energy contract structures
  • Knowledge of hedging mechanisms and products.
  • Experience of originating and negotiating contracts with end users, ideally including corporates, or specifically negotiating PPAs and other route to market contracts
  • Graduate or Masters degree in a quantitative discipline or ability to demonstrate commensurate experience.
