The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. The SZC Project is a ~£20bn nuclear new build project in Suffolk which is currently seeking planning approval and financing from HMG and investors, with a view to start construction in 2023. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support EDF’s objective to help Britain achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Radiological & Emergency Preparedness Manager to provide oversight of the Radiation Protection, Emergency Preparedness and Radioactive Waste Management Workstreams within Sizewell C.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly. If you’re able to travel to the office to collaborate with your team and stakeholders when required, you can be based anywhere in the UK. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

You’ll manage the Radiological & Emergency Preparedness Team, which forms part of the Environment, Decommissioning and Radiation Safety Function. The team is in place to set the standards and maintain oversight of the relevant License Conditions for SZC, and the associated regulations regarding Radiation Protection, Decommissioning in Design, Radioactive Waste Management, and Emergency Preparedness, this includes for both the future operational station and construction activities.

Additionally, you’ll own the key interfaces with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency.

You’ll also be responsible for acceptance of work conducted by Hinkley Point C (HPC), our Technical Services Organisation and the supply chain on behalf of the SZC organisation in support of the Radiological & Emergency Preparedness Team’s scope and objectives.

The Skills

You’ll have a solid technical background in preferably more than one of these disciplines: Radiation Protection, Decommissioning in Design, Radioactive Waste Management, and Emergency Preparedness, with knowledge of the associated legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and standards.

Ideally, you’ll have demonstrable leadership experience having managed the implementation of regulatory requirements for a large project.

Knowledge of working on a Nuclear Licensed Site and/ or a large infrastructure project would be an advantage.

If the above sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you!
