Portfolio Analytics Analyst / Senior Analyst

The Opportunity


This is an exciting opportunity for a numerate and engaged candidate to join us and learn about wholesale energy trading. We’re open to recruiting either an Analyst or Senior Analyst to join the team. With long term development and training opportunities, the Analyst role would suit someone at the beginning of their analyst career. The Senior Analyst role would be ideal for an experienced candidate looking for the next step in their career.
 
The Portfolio Analytics & Trading Support (PATS) team sits within the Portfolio Operations team which as a whole is responsible for the energy trading activities of EDF’s Generation and Customers portfolio.

Portfolio Analytics & Trading Support is responsible for:
 

  • Developing and implementing the hedging strategies for EDF’s wholesale market activities
  • Provide guidance and analytical support to the Shift Trading and Portfolio Hedging teams who are responsible for trading the energy requirements in the wholesale market
  • Report on the trading performance and hedging activity to drive insight, improved commercial value and provide visibility of the team’s activities up to the executive level

The Role

 

The Portfolio Analytics Analyst’s responsibilities include:
 

  • Running and maintaining the trading performance and KPI metrics for the Portfolio Operations team to provide feedback and insight into the commercial performance of the team.
  • Creating weekly and monthly reports on portfolio position and hedging activity to the wider Wholesale Market Optimisation team and executive committees. Ensuring content remains effective to provide insight into the trading activities, strategies and the associated commercial value.
  • Supporting the implementation of the hedging strategies in the Trading Risk Management system (Aligne) such that the trading positions are managed effectively and accurately.
  • Managing projects to develop and improve EDF’s hedging strategies in support of maximising gross margin and reducing risk to the combined portfolio of Generation and Customers assets.
  • Working closely with the Portfolio Hedging and Shift Trading teams to determine the most effective way to execute the hedging strategy.
  • Providing analysis, insight and challenge to support the trading performance.
     

The Skills

 

  • Academic qualification to Degree level in a numerate discipline or equivalent experience
  • A strong analytical mindset, able to deal with complex problems and large quantities of data
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills; capable of presenting clearly on complex/detailed subjects
  • Able to establish and maintain effective internal business relationships with key stakeholders at all levels
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel

 
The following are desirable:

 

  • Knowledge of UK wholesale energy markets, generation assets and retail markets
  • Understanding of risk management and hedging
  • Experience with the Aligne TRM system
  • Experience with Python, C or other comparable coding languages would be a benefit
