The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. The SZC Project is a ~£20bn nuclear new build project in Suffolk which is currently seeking planning approval and financing from HMG and investors, with a view to start construction in 2023. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years supporting our objective to help Britain achieve Net Zero by 2050.

As a Physical Security Design Lead (Assurance), you’ll be the intelligent customer responsible for replicating the Hinkley Point C (HPC) Physical Protection System (PPS) and security case for Nuclear New Build (NNB) Sizewell C (SZC). You will work with other security domain leads and the Technical Services Organisation (TSO) distributed design authority to ensure the correct identification and implementation of project security requirements, security design changes and assurance for Sizewell C.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you don’t have to live in London. If you’re able to travel to the London office to collaborate with your team and stakeholders when required, you can be based anywhere in the UK. You will also be expected to visit and work closely with the TSO in Barnwood Gloucester. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

We’re looking for someone to identify and manage the SZC PPS project requirements and design changes for the integrated operational security design for Sizewell C.

Working in collaboration with the SZC Security Manager, you’ll ensure that the SZC project's overall security arrangements meet the required regulatory, legal requirements and align with standards.

You will ensure that the PPS claims arguments and evidence within the NNB GenCo (SZC) Nuclear Site Security Plan (NSSP) meet the requirements of the Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR) (2003) throughout the SZC project lifecycle from construction through to operations.

Working closely with the TSO nuclear security distributed design authority, you’ll manage the interface for the intelligent replication, development and delivery of the PPS from Hinkley Point C (HPC) as well as implementing HPC methodology for vital area identification and risk management as implemented by TSO nuclear security.

You’ll maintain physical security standards, procedures and arrangements within the SZC Integrated Management System (IMS) for the SZC project relating to the input of the PPS design into engineering configuration and requirements capture for the operational power station.

You’ll also draft documentation in preparation for commissioning and nuclear operations, leveraging off HPC operational experience where relevant.

The Skills

You’ll bring your proven experience of developing physical security operational requirements and managing physical security design requirements and risk through contracts.

You should be able to understand the wider requirements of the SZC project and can advise decision makers in the application of risk proportionate security requirements to achieve the regulatory requirements of the security case for the future operational power station, making clear arguments based on costs to project schedule, costs of design change and the running costs of the future operational power station throughout its lifecycle.

You’re likely to have good knowledge and understanding of all aspects of physical security technologies.

We’d love for you to have experience in the following;

•    Experience of regulatory engagement, surveillance, inspection and auditing

•    Experience of delivery of security projects as part of an integrated operational response model, inputting into strategic security plans

An understanding of corporate governance and commercial law to decision making as well as safety and regulatory affairs is essential.

Knowledge of CPNI and NCSC material including assurance of supply chain activities would be highly beneficial.

You must either currently hold or be able to achieve NSV SC.
