The Opportunity

Are you looking for a legal career which is rewarding and where you can really make a difference? Well we’re looking for a talented and self-starting Legal Counsel to join our HPC and Nuclear Development Legal team, supporting the Sizewell C Project here at EDF so this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

The work of the HPC and Nuclear Development Legal team is critical to the success of the project with responsibilities which include managing and developing complex governance and funding arrangements of the Sizewell C Project across shareholders, future investors, regulators and with UK Government. You will also understand, oversee and advise on complex IPR rights across different technologies as well as negotiate and support the management of commercial contracts required for the construction of the new Sizewell C power station whilst supporting the business with regulatory compliance and development/compliance with planning requirements.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you don’t have to live in London. As long as you’re able to travel to the office at least 2/3 days a week to collaborate with your team and stakeholders and see the project’s progression for yourself, you can be based anywhere in the UK.

We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively. Catherine Gilbert, Legal Counsel says “The flexibility to work from home is very helpful to support me in doing my job well, connecting with the right people and collaborating with teams easily. It also supports me in my home life as it makes school runs much easier to incorporate into the day.”

The Role

You will support the business in understanding regulatory obligations and demonstrating best practice in all aspects including GDPR, export controls, health & safety and environment, nuclear licensing and energy markets.

You’ll have a proactive, can-do approach and strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify risk, risk mitigations and present suitable options to the business balancing risk and reward. You’ll also have great attention to detail, providing highly pragmatic legal advice in the context of an established, commercial and operational business.

If you have relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor admitted in England and Wales with well-rounded legal knowledge and drafting skills in commercial, contractual and / or regulatory law then we’d love to hear from you! We have a full job description available and you can request this at application stage if you would like to view it.
