Flexibility Product Design Lead - Grid Scale

The Opportunity


EDF Wholesale Market Services (WMS) is a core business line within the EDF UK Customers Business that is at the centre of helping Britain achieve Net Zero. It provides industry leading wholesale market services to EDF’s supply and generation business units and to third party energy asset owners. The team operates in a broad and diverse range of market segments including residential & business supply, nuclear, renewable & thermal generation and storage & flexible energy.


We are looking for a talented Product Design Lead to act as the subject matter expert within the Grid Scale Flexibility Portfolio! In this role, you’ll help shape the Flexibility team’s strategy by driving the vision, championing the Grid Scale portfolio products and bringing exciting new innovations to market.

What you’ll be doing


As the Product Design Lead you will be accountable for the end-to-end commercial management of both signed and prospective customer contracts within the Grid Scale flexibility portfolio. This will be from initial valuation and pricing through to complex contract structuring and performance management.


You’ll also be responsible for the end-to-end design of individual battery and renewable flexibility products from discovery and design, through to delivery.


A key element of the role is to plan, undertake and support user research to inform strategic decisions and the design of potential solutions. You’ll identify and scope out customer and business requirements and effectively translate them into new or improved product offerings, which meet requirements (compliance, performance and scalability).


Working collaboratively with the technology team, you’ll be responsible for all stages of the product development process and developing product roadmaps including release schedules and iteration and sprint goals.


You will be the subject matter expert within the Grid Scale product area!


Who you are


We’re looking for somebody with in-depth knowledge of the UK wholesale energy and flexibility markets, along with insights into emerging competitor and regulatory changes. You should have experience with battery storage and renewable flexibility energy products. As the subject matter expert, you’ll bring strong commercial and technical skills in both areas.


The role requires a deep understanding of the regulatory, market and competitor landscape to drive innovation for new products.


You will have the ability to apply and understand a wide variety of modelling and analytical techniques, ensuring best practice applied. You’ll have a strong commercial acumen and previous experience of working within a commercial role.


You will demonstrate the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships both internal and external, ensuring excellent customer service.
