Financial Control Senior Analyst

Employment type: This role is offered on a 12 months fixed-term basis, but will likely become permanent once project reaches final investment decision

The Opportunity


Our exciting Sizewell C (SZC) project – a proposed new nuclear power station to be built on the Suffolk coast - would provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years which, along with renewables, will support Britain’s Net Zero aim by 2050.  

As Financial Control Senior Analyst you’ll ensure that ‘Value for Money’ is evidenced to Shareholders and External Regulatory Bodies by providing challenge, assurance and reporting of robust financial information to support decision making by the SZC leadership and external stakeholders.

The Role


You’ll work collaboratively with the other Finance teams, along with other project support teams from Supply Chain and Project Controls, in order to support the SZC Financial Control Manager and SZC Leadership team to optimise financial performance and return on investment for stakeholders. You’ll be empowered to ensure accurate and robust cost information and you will have direct responsibility for challenging the business.

Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:


  • Reviewing and collating planning, budgeting and forecasting information, challenging assumptions and decisions, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Owning the monthly financial reporting cycle, including collation of data and calculation of monthly accruals, business partnering and challenging functional teams to ensure robustness and auditability of financial information
  • Exercising Governance and Control
  • Managing the delivery and presentation of timely, accurate and relevant management information alongside Project Controls to ensure alignment of cost and schedule
  • Ownership of the Cost Breakdown Structure of the project to enable a clean audit trail of expenditure, ensuring that all expenses and task orders are coded according to the agreed project structure
  • Challenging budget holders on financial decisions and identifying opportunities for cost savings with the core mind-set of “Value for Money” and Financial Control at all times
  • Working closely with HR Business Partner to ensure that staff cost information is reported in an accurate and robust manner
  • Monitoring and reporting monthly SZC cash position and working closely with Project teams to create forward looking cash forecasts, to enable Equity to be called on time and protect cash liquidity of Project
  • Supporting the external cost verification process including liaison with external regulatory bodies with regards to the future financing of the project
  • Implementing best practice financial behaviours and coaching the business in the importance and benefits of accurate financial information
  • Supporting enterprise wide change initiatives e.g. regulatory driven, cost or growth initiatives.
  • Acting as a deputy for Financial Control Manager when absent, taking responsibility for continuation of business as usual processes

The Skills


To be successful in this role you’ll be able to demonstrate:


  • A qualified accountant accreditation (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW etc.) 
  • Business partner experience and ability to lead finance support to the project
  • Expert knowledge of financial processes and exercising governance and control
  • Experience of managing, supporting and challenging performance 
  • Strong management information analysis and reporting, presentation, problem solving and decision support skills
  • Proven ability to build effective working level relationships across functions including at a senior level, with strong influencing, communication and presentation skills
  • An ability to present complex financial ideas and business ideas in writing and verbally in an appropriate way for the audience
  • Consideration of a full range of factors impacting a decision and able to compromise and negotiate, constructively challenging assumptions, business performance and plans
  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting standards




  • Previous experience of Project Finance in large infrastructure preferable
  • Commercial awareness and knowledge of the energy sector
