Environment Lead (Sizewell C)

Location: London with occasional site visits.


Employment type: 12- month fixed term contract pending the Final Investment Decision (FID) on the project

The Opportunity

 

Our exciting Sizewell C (SZC) project – a proposed new nuclear power station to be built on the Suffolk coast - would provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years which, along with renewables, will support Britain’s Net Zero aim by 2050.  


We’re now looking for a Conventional Environment Lead to play a key part in the Environment Function, which takes responsibility for the development and delivery of the necessary environmental permits associated with the construction and operation of SZC. 
 

The Role

 

You’ll lead conventional environmental topics, tasks and objectives as directed by the Environment Manager. 


Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:

 

  • Leading conventional environmental topics, tasks and objectives as directed by the Environment Manager
  • Acting as the Custodian of the Operational Water Discharge Activity (WDA) and Combustion Activity (CA) permits, including future variations, and integration of requirements into the wider project through formalised processes (e.g. contracts and design modifications)
  • Contributing to the management and development of SZC Integrated Management System in support of permit compliance
  • Leading engagement with the Environment Agency on technical topics to harness and maintain an effective working relationship
  • Developing, maintaining and transferring knowledge of the environmental processes within the directorate and more widely across SZC
  • Managing and accepting contract deliverables on behalf of SZC as the permit holder (part of the Intelligent Customer capability)
     

The Skills

 

To be successful in this role you’ll be able to demonstrate:

 

  • A degree qualification or equivalent in an Environmental, Science or related field
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and standards
  • Experience of environmental permitting and technical environmental issues relating to the power industry, including water discharges and combustion activity
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills


Desirable:

 

  • Experience in delivery of Regulatory Commitments
  • Experience in delivery of pre-operational conditions
  • Experience with COMAH 
  • Membership/ chartership of a relevant professional body
