The Opportunity
Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We are seeking a CWP Engineering and Technical Lead (within the Marine & Tunnelling sector), a critical role within our Civil Works Programme (CWP) Engineering & Technical function, to ensure the successful delivery of the Marine and Tunnelling scope.
Our teams operate with a hybrid working model, providing flexibility between office and home working to best suit your needs.
The Role
As the Engineering and Technical Lead for Marine & Tunnelling, you will play a pivotal role in defining and coordinating the assurance of design and technical requirements for marine and tunnelling works, while ensuring their seamless integration with other portions of the Civil Works Programme. Acting as the Intelligent Customer, you will ensure compliance with required standards and conduct effective surveillance, overseeing the Engineering & Technical budget and associated resources. Representing the Civil Works Programme in governance forums, performance management, and programme controls, you will provide technical oversight and support to construction, manufacturing quality, and specialist engineering activities. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with Principal Designer duties under CDM regulations. This role involves engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including design teams, suppliers, alliance partners, and governmental agencies, fostering collaboration to deliver a project of national importance.
The Skills
Essential:
- Expertise in design activities for civil engineering structures, marine works, or multidisciplinary design management.
- Knowledge of marine and tunnelling works, including tunnel design and construction as well as offshore marine-type construction is essential, alongside Civils experience.
- At least two years of tunnelling experience, preferably in design management, construction project management, or a similar field, with a focus on design rather than construction.
- Experience providing technical assistance within a delivery team.
- Familiarity with nuclear industry standards is good to have but not essential.
- Proven leadership in technical team management and supplier direction.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Degree-level qualification in a related field.
Desirable:
- Experience with Hinkley Point C (HPC), though not mandatory.
- Knowledge of the nuclear industry.
- Postgraduate qualification or membership in professional institutions (e.g., ICE, BTS, APM).
- French-speaking skills are nice to have but not compulsory, as the role involves liaising with Responsible Designers and other stakeholders.
If the above sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you!
