Curve Trader

The Opportunity


As a Curve Trader, you will join the team in taking responsibility for the execution of all EDF (UK) internal and external hedging strategies on the curve horizon. You’ll be executing this within a defines risk appetite, hedging framework and risk limit structure.


The role is responsible for managing the combined EDF commodity positions over the Curve horizon and will involve trading physical Gas, Power, and UK Carbon Certificates.

What you’ll be doing


In addition to executing curve hedging strategies within a defined risk framework, you will support the management of the EDF customer desk, ensuring that EDF delivers a market leading route to market service for business customers and third-party clients.


You will conduct detailed fundamental market analysis focusing on the curve horizon, maintaining models, and leading on analysis. You will oversee portfolio shape risks across power and gas markets (quarterly, monthly, daily, and intra-day) while identifying and proposing innovative trading strategies. Additionally, you will contribute to and take the lead on projects and enhancements within the curve trading team.


As a Curve Trader, you will take the lead in managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, fostering strong connections through clear and concise communication.


Who you are


You’ll demonstrate excellent knowledge of the UK wholesale energy markets, preferably the gas market.


You’ll have a solid understanding of risk management techniques and measures, as well as wholesale market regulations. Additionally, you’ll excel at working independently, effectively prioritising conflicting demands from various stakeholders while ensuring expectations are manged.


We’re looking for someone with strong commercial acumen and a customer focused mindset. You’ll have a solid understanding of evolving business and financial environments. You will be confident in sharing opinions and presenting new ideas, bringing a proactive and innovative approach.


Familiarity with trading and risk management systems is beneficial and coding skills are preferred.
