The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a ~£20bn nuclear new build project in Suffolk which has just obtained planning approval and is seeking financing from HMG and investors, with a view to start construction in 2023. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our growing team of Environment Specialists on the SZC project. The Environment Function takes responsibility for the development and delivery of the necessary environmental permits associated with the construction, commissioning and operation of SZC.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly. If you’re able to travel to the office to collaborate with your team and stakeholders when required, you can be based anywhere in the UK. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

As the Conventional Environment Specialist, you’ll contribute to, and lead on as appropriate, the delivery of technical and regulatory commitments and conditions specifically for effluent waste streams and combustion emissions from the SZC site.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders such as the Environment Agency and other regulators, and you’ll advise SZC on the best approach to meet relevant non- permitted environmental legislative and best practice requirements.

Ensuring that all deliverables produced to support compliance with permits are timely, accurate and of good quality will be key.

The Skills

You’ll have knowledge and skills in a wide range of environmental issues, with working knowledge of environmental legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and standards.

Experience working in an environment support role would be beneficial, as would experience within an industrial/ construction setting.

It’d be a bonus if you’ve had interactions with the Environment Agency, as would any experience within the nuclear industry.

If the above sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you!

A full job description is available on application.
