Configuration Engineer

Configuration Engineer, Sizewell C, London, 12- Month FTC, c.£45,000 - £50,000

The Opportunity

#WeAreEDF and are leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission electric future, tackling climate change and helping Britain achieve net zero.

As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF’s Nuclear New Build (NNB) team is leading a programme to build a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK, focussed on two new nuclear power stations, the first since Sizewell B in 1995. The first station is under construction at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, and NNB’s goal is to build a second at Sizewell C in Suffolk. The Sizewell C project is currently in the development phase, with UK public policy; financing; commercial and construction arrangements being established. The intention is to begin construction of the project at the end of 2021.

The HPC Project is one of Europe’s largest construction projects and the first new nuclear build in the UK within private ownership. SZC looks to replicate this. Unlike HPC which is equity funded, SZC will require a new model of funding that brings the overall risk to construct, operate and decommission for investors down to a level that will attract investment at regulated asset rates of return.

We now have an opportunity is for an experienced Configuration Engineer to aid the replication of the European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) at Hinkley Point C to Sizewell C. You will be joining at a key stage of the project, with the priority of defining and securing the first stage of engineering configuration.

The Role

As part of a team of configuration engineers reporting to the Engineering Integration Lead, you will define all processes, procedures, tools and standards necessary to manage and develop referential configuration activities. You will also work closely with the Replication Lead, Responsible Designer teams and HPC teams to ensure maximum replication of the EPR on site at Sizewell C.

You will have the following accountabilities:

•    Act as the technical point of contact for the Engineering teams with regards to all configuration management topics within their scope
•    Work with the HPC Plant Integration and the Responsible Designer (RD) teams to define the SZC Configuration Management strategy
•    Review existing procedures related to change control and configuration management to identify those which need to be put in place for SZC
•    Drive implementation of the SZC Change Control Process in order to maintain close control of the HPC replication for SZC
•    Management and closure of design open points
•    Support SZC engineering teams to identify and develop SZC-specific changes
•    Support SZC engineering teams with the specification and implementation of Design Changes
•    Coordinate the review of the technical proposal made by the Engineering teams with the support of HPC R&A teams
•    Provide the interface between the Design Change process, Cost Estimating team and Schedule team

The Skills

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

•    Experience of configuration management, or alternatively interface management/ project engineering in the delivery of major infrastructure projects
•    Experience of defining modification processes in consistency with project needs
•    Ability to coordinate technical topics across multiple disciplines
•    Experience in large multi-disciplinary engineering projects

The following would be desirable:

•    Prior experience working on the HPC project
•    Knowledge of EPR project design
•    An understanding of engineering principles within EPR projects
•    An understanding of the commercial aspects of major project delivery

Competitive Salary & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

Please let us know if you require flexible working arrangements by highlighting this on your application. We’re happy to talk flex in line with the requirements of this opportunity.
