The Opportunity

 

As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF Energy is leading the way in building a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK. Sizewell C (SZC) is a proposed new nuclear station that is being developed with a target to start construction at the end of 2021.

 

The SZC Project Team is a growing, diverse and collaborative organisation committed to engaging stakeholders, obtaining development consent and preparing the project for the start of construction.

 

We now have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join the SZC project, to support Project Managers in the end to end delivery of a scope of Systems, Structures and Components, ensuring contracts are delivered safely to quality, on time and within cost.

The Role

 

As an Assistant Project Manager working on the Sizewell C project, you will have the unique opportunity to be involved with the development stages of a nuclear power station with a target to start construction at the end of 2021. Providing 7% of the UK’s current demand with reliable low carbon electricity, the SZC project will have a big impact in the drive to reduce carbon emissions in the UK and achieve net zero.

 

Reporting to the Nuclear Island Engineering and Delivery Programme Director, and alongside a team of Project Managers, you will have the following main responsibilities:

 

•    Organisation and coordination of Technical Engineering, Cost, Contractor and Scheduling meetings on behalf of the Programme Manager
•    Developing and implementing management systems, as required, supporting delivery and quality as specified by the Project Controls Department
•    Ensuring that wider NNB (Nuclear New Build) arrangements are implemented within the programme of works 
•    Assisting Project Managers in delivering the List of Deliverables (LOD) and in applying the principles of Earned Value Management (EVM) and Continuous Improvement
•    Interfacing with other teams within NNB, on specific tasks as required, under the direction of the Programme Manager for the team

The Skills

 

In order to be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

 


•    Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, construction or related field in the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC space
•    Implementation of project management and organisational skills, which has been gained through practical experience and preferably recognised with a qualification
•    Excellent written and oral presentation skills, able to communicate effectively and interact with senior managers
•    Exceptional people management skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence and work collaboratively within complex, internal and external, multidisciplinary groups
•    Ability to display and communicate a logical thought process, with excellent analytical skills, including capabilities for budget analysis and forecasting
•    Knowledge of CDM Regulations
