Senior DevOps Engineer - AWS

Senior DevOps Engineer

Bringing together all the data teams across Customers gives a fantastic opportunity to build a world class Data Centre of Excellence helping Britain Achieve Net Zero and delivering value across the Customers Business. We are building a resilient, efficient, scalable and flexible data platform that enables us to build and implement data products, provide actionable data models and insight that drives value adding action and are the driving force behind EDF’s data driven marketing activity.

As the Senior DevOps Engineer, you will design, implement and manage cloud native infrastructure to ingest, process and democratize data that serve the needs of other users within EDF in the UK. This will cover both native AWS infrastructure as well as hosted Data warehouse (Snowflake) and Machine Learning (SageMaker) facilities.

Pay, benefits and culture...

In addition to a competitive salary we offer a market-leading company pension scheme, paid holidays with ability to buy additional holiday and a range of flexible benefits, such as: a company incentive bonus plan, health cover, cycle to work scheme, electric vehicle scheme, gym membership, discounts and employee pricing.

Whilst your base office will be in Hove, we’ll support you to work flexibly from home (providing a suite of IT equipment), whilst coming together on site to offer face to face support and collaboration. Please note that you will be required to attend the office once a month (Every last Thursday of the month).

Gemma Vine, Senior Delivery Assurance Executive, says “Having come back from maternity leave May last year, EDF have been flexible and where we can now work from home, I am able to do 4 longer days to have a day off in the week with my son. This not only helps financially as it’s a day less of childcare, but I am also getting some quality time with my son.”

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself.  We’re committed to equality, diversity, inclusion.  We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re an equal opportunity and disability confident employer. If you feel comfortable sharing with us that you have a disability, you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we will guarantee you an interview.

We’ll value the difference you bring and give you opportunities to thrive and succeed and to feel you belong.

The opportunity…

Our data platform encompasses several core components – A data lake where raw and processed data is stored, an analytics platform where data is cleansed and transformed, and machine learning products are created and productionised, a data warehouse where structured data is stored and a set of state-of-the art tools for the end user to produce cutting-edge reports and visualisations. The objective of our Data Platform Team is to develop, test, productionise data assets into the platform infrastructure whilst ensuring that deployed infrastructure and data assets are of sufficient quality to drive business outcomes.

You will define, build, test and maintain a bootstrapped AWS hosted governed multi-account enterprise data engineering and data science platform containing numerous CI/CD pipelines, logging and monitoring framework, multi-level testing, existing critical infrastructure etc. while ensuring that the deliverables are of consistently high quality and provide maximum value for business stakeholders.

As the Senior DevOps Engineer you're not normally expected to develop any Data Science products or Data Engineering pipelines. However, you will be a point of contact for Data Science and Data Engineering teams using infrastructure you have developed. Technical issues can be escalated to the Lead DevOps Engineer, and management issues to the Platform Infrastructure manager in your team.

What we’re looking for…

It’s not just the technical competencies that are important to be successful in this role, the way you carry it out and the behaviours you demonstrate are equally important.  We’re looking for great people to take an active role in the team.  In short, we need people who recognise the role they play, and who are committed to creating great employee experiences and a great place to work.

We want you to be passionate about creating elegant and easily maintainable cloud infrastructure, having a keen interest in existing and emerging technologies to influence and drive future direction and add additional value to our customers. You will be a self-starter, confident taking initiatives and deciding the best course of action, and ideally be active in the DevOps community at large and be able to demonstrate your progressive thinking.
