The Opportunity


SME Telesales Agent (Direct Sales), Portland Road - Hove, From £18,000 plus commission

WeAreEDF and are leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission electric future, tackling climate change and helping Britain achieve net zero. An exciting opportunity has arisen at EDF within the SME Telesales Team to join us on a fixed term basis for a duration of 12 months. The Telesales Agent will promote and sell energy products and services to new and existing customers, providing an excellent Customer Service sales experience, operating within a fast paced, continuously evolving environment with a variety of campaign work. This role is critical to the EDF growth strategy as we look to grow our existing customer portfolio and add incremental value to the existing customer base. 

The role includes a wide variety of campaign activity ranging from Sales (Inbound & Outbound) to Lead Generation and also other value add activity. Recognising the evolution of the operating model and agile nature of the organisation, the content and nature of this role may change over time. The SME Telesales Team sits within the wider Sales and Marketing area and is responsible for achieving challenging targets via the correct margin decisions, effective sales channel management, innovative proposition development and optimised customer experience.

Reporting directly to the Sales Manager you will ensure delivery of:

  • Immediately acquire new business and also generate a pipeline of new customers for the EDF portfolio whilst also supporting the retention of existing customer accounts.
  • Updating your business knowledge in a highly competitive market and keep abreast of products, processes and industry requirements.
  • Responsible for achieving daily/weekly/monthly sales targets and KPI’s aimed at growth, retention and lead generation.
  • Identifying customer requirements and advising of EDF products and service benefits.  

The Person

The market is hugely competitive and building trust with our customers on a call-by-call basis is of critical importance. The role holder must be able to work under pressure and have a positive mind set when obstacles occur, a ‘can-do’ attitude is required for this job role as campaigns and challenges will regularly change.

Key drivers to our future success are the ability to build value adding pipelines of customers with which to acquire and add incremental value. We will value your existing skills and experience while providing the opportunity to work as part of a team of approximately 12-15 sellers working 37 hours per week. A flexible approach is essential in a fast moving and ever-changing business environment, you will also be able to adapt to both individual and team-based targets which include non-energy sales. 

The Telesales Agent must be flexible between 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday as required in the small business sales operation.

The Skills


We are looking for a proven track record of achieving targets in a Telesales environment and an individual with excellent negotiation and verbal communication skills, able to demonstrate a variety of sales closure techniques.


You will also have:

  • Resilience, able to handle difficult objections, criticisms and complaints objectively.
  • Knowledge of business energy supply market.
  • Strong track record in a high performing sales environment; target driven and outcome focused.
  • Excellent influencing skills and have a range of objection handling skills.
  • Competent on Microsoft Office application.
  • The ability to work under pressure in an ever changing competitive energy market.
  • Knowledge of SAP CRM desirable.
