The Opportunity


We are looking for a highly motivated R&D Digital Developer, to contribute to the development of digital projects and UK Centre activities in the Digital area, in collaboration with Customer, and Power Generation business units.

 

You will be part of the R&D Digital Innovation team - made up of software developers, data scientists, digital designers, PhD students and project managers - reporting to the Head of R&D Digital Innovation. 

 

We operate like an in-house start-up and our job is to not only keep a beady eye on the most cutting-edge digital technologies, but also to turn those technologies into proof of concepts that show how they could bring value to the business.

 

You will contribute to digital development projects undertaken across the whole lifecycle of software development including defining the project scope, determining technical solutions to meet customer requirements, planning the development process, writing and reviewing code, testing and providing support and maintenance for the final product.


You’ll be equipped with your choice of hardware (PC or Mac), and software including Slack, Google Apps, access to your own favourite tools (you choose) so as long as you are able to travel to our Hove office a couple of times a month, you can be based anywhere in the UK.

 

The Role & Skills 
 

As R&D Developer the role will be Full- Stack development, backend and frontend software development including mobile applications, web services and applications running on connected devices. 
 

We would love you to have experience across the following: 
 

  • Substantial experience as a software developer.
  • Excellent knowledge of Oriented-Object Programming.
  • Must be able to rapidly learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Familiarity with backend technologies e.g. Node.js, Flask, etc.
  • Solid front end knowledge e.g. HTML5, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks e.g. React and Vue.js.
  • Familiarity with Single Page Application architecture and using RESTful APIs.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Creative flair and up-to-date knowledge of industry software.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation and experimenting with cutting-edge technologies.


Nice-to-haves

 

  • Cloud architectures, particularly AWS.
  • Experience in blockchain development.
  • Experience developing conversational systems.
  • Experience in VR, AR or MR development.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience organising and participating in innovation events (hackathons, design sprint sessions).
  • Familiarity with the lifecycle of overall digital projects, from idea to market roll-out.
  • Passion for innovation and energy technologies.
  • International experience.
  • Design Thinking.
