Machine Learning Scientist

The Research & Development (R&D) team in the UK supports EDF in its business and commercial activities, contributing to international low carbon energy development and is an integral part of the EDF Group network, responsible for leading research and development activities in the UK. We are looking for a talented Machine Learning Scientist to contribute to new and existing machine learning, data science and digital projects in collaboration with business units across EDF.

What you’ll be doing


As the Machine Learning Scientist, you will focus on the application of machine learning within the business, for example contributing to on-going projects such as defect-detection for wind turbine blades, extracting insights from smart meter data and exploring the use of large language models.


You will collaborate with other members of the Digital Innovation team to design and deliver high-quality data science projects that meet the needs of the business customers. This will involve scoping problems, assessing possible technical approaches, building proofs-of-concept, and implementing technical solution for use by the business.


This role will see you working on a variety of topics such as implementing deep learning algorithms, primarily for advanced computer vision or NLP, developing, implementing, and maintaining state of the art machine learning methods and exploring and implementing novel use cases involving generative AI and multimodal techniques.


You will also explore new projects such as machine learning for physical simulations or advanced text mining of our customer interactions.


Who you are


We are looking for somebody with a background of either computer science, data science, mathematics, or a related data-intensive field.  


You will have working knowledge of computer vision or natural language processing, python data science frameworks, data visualisation frameworks and other relevant libraries and toolkits. You’ll have experience with data analysis, data warehouses and big data technologies.


You’ll demonstrate strong communication skills, a proactive approach and enthusiasm for innovation and experimenting with cutting-edge technologies!
