The Data Quality Analyst, within the Data Quality Centre of Excellence (CoE) team in the Data Office will focus on continuous data quality improvement across the Customers business, through data analysis and working to support and deliver a best-practice data quality framework and supporting processes.  The Data Quality Analyst will work with the Data Quality Centre of Excellence Manager business to implement value-driven and efficient tools & techniques which are well governed, consistently applied and will enable the Customers business to sustainably improve its data quality. The role sits within the Data Office in the Blue Lab within Customers.

The Customers business has an annual turnover of c£6.3bn with an operating expenditure of c£584m, capex investment of c£56m, gross margin of c£698m and EBITDA of c£72m.  Customers serve over 200,000 business customers and are the largest supplier of electricity to business customers in Britain.  Customers also supplies energy and energy services to over 5.3m residential customer accounts across the UK.
 
Framework & Boundaries 
Customers has formed the Data Office and initiated the Data Programme to improve our capabilities in Information Management by creating a new data ecosystem, and to deliver tools & processes which support Customers to become a data-driven organisation.
 
The Customers Data Office function sits within Blue Lab and comprises of a team of Data Stewards and Centre of Excellence teams specialising in Data Quality and Data Analytics & Reporting.
 
The role holder will be expected to engage with stakeholders across levels, escalating where necessary and presenting clear and concise information as regards data quality.
 
Key Partners: Data Quality Centre of Excellence Manager, Centre of Excellence team, Data Stewards, Data Owners, Subject Matter Experts, Operational Excellence, Business Change & IT, EIT.

Scope:  The Data Quality Analyst will work with the Data Quality Centre of Excellence Manager, Subject Matter Experts, operational managers, activity owners and senior managers across Customers including Sales & Marketing, Customer Operations, Customers Finance, Wholesale Markets Optimisation, Smart Metering, Blue Lab and R&D.  The role will undertake analysis and provide recommendations to enable stakeholders to understand data quality performance, what the impact of this is and what remediation actions and benefits of doing so may be.

  • Support the Data Quality Centre of Excellence Manager with development and implementation of the data quality strategy, policy and governance
  • Work collaboratively with Data Quality Centre of Excellence Manager and stakeholders across Customers to ensure robust business cases are developed for remediating data quality issues and deliver the programme(s) of remediation work, reporting progress to stakeholders
  • Define and put in place data quality metrics and controls to monitor data quality 
  • Undertake analysis (regular and ad hoc) to understand data quality performance and make recommendations for remediation off the back of this
  • Regularly measure, report and present findings on data quality controls and performance to data owners and other key partners across Customers
  • Maintain and communicate company wide data quality governance standards, frameworks and policies and foster a business culture that values data as a corporate asset by promoting discipline and compliance around its use
  • Deliver data quality assessment and on-going monitoring to increase confidence in those core functional processes with a data dependency across Customers
  • Support the Data Quality Centre of Excellence Manager in the assessment, prioritisation and coordination of Data Quality issue review and remediation
  • Undertake production data quality monitoring to identify quality issues, and perform root cause and source data error analysis to determine their priority
  • Perform data audits in the analytics environment to drive continuous improvement.

Essential

  • Experience of working in a data or analytical environment to produce insight that is used to derive commercial value, understand performance and make recommendations
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate and understand data
  • A good understanding of current data quality techniques and principles with knowledge of emerging technologies
  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team to deliver improvement projects.
  • Experience of stakeholder management and ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical terms
  • Able to apply interpersonal and influencing skills to develop strong relationships with stakeholders and provide advice based on demonstrated expertise
  • Experience with preparing business cases, evaluating options and undertaking commercial analysis

 

Desirable

  • Experience working in business analysis or a functional support role would be advantageous
  • Previous experience in working with data quality tools such as Talend
  • Experience of setting data quality standards, monitoring data quality and managing arising issues through remediation
