Onshore Dev Technical Co-ordinator

Vacancy Overview

EDF Renewables is seeking a replacement Development Technical Co-ordinator which has been created due to promotion.  The role sits within the Development & Investment Directorate and reports to the Development and Consents Manager.

The role is vased in our Rainton Bridge office, Houghton le Spring and will require regular travel.

Candidates will ideally have worked within the renewable proveiously although this is not essential.  The role involves providing reporting and wider techncial support to the renewables business.

Nature and Scope

EDF Renewables (“EDF R”) is a 50/50 JV between EDF Energy (“EDF E”) and EDF Energies Nouvelles (“EDF EN”) (together the “ Shareholders”). EDF ER has the task of delivering the Shareholders’ strategic renewable energy objectives in the UK. Hence, EDF R is responsible for developing, constructing, and operating the shareholders renewable assets in the UK.  EDF R currently operates 698MW (34 wind farms), and is in the process of commissioning an additional 177MW of capacity. EDF R has developed and maintains a large portfolio of onshore wind projects with new sites still being identified, assessed and added to the portfolio.

 

The Development and Investment (D&I) function leads the EDF R renewable development (across all technologies) business in the UK.  The main responsibilities include (i) setting up and reviewing the business strategy, (ii) managing all onshore, offshore and other renewable projects through their full project life time including development to consent, delivery into operation and operational asset management, and (iii) leading M&A activities including acquisition, partnership and disposal of onshore projects.

 

The Onshore Development Team is responsible for all aspects of the early stage development, from initial site identification through to feasibility, landowner negotiations and gaining planning permission for our projects. This team has a wide range of skills and supports other teams within EDF R on construction, acquisition and other development related opportunities. 

 

The Development Co-ordinator, reporting to the Development and Consents Manager, will be responsible will focus on a portfolio of projects and support their delivery through the development gate and budget process.  This will involve reporting and analysis of project data to identify the most viable projects to progress.  The role will involve co-ordinating all aspects of pipeline and project data management and analysis. 

 

This is an important role which requires excellent reporting and presentation skills and as integral tothe success of our development portfolio.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Co-ordination and production of monthly pipeline reviews with the Director of D&I and more detailed quarterly reviews with a cross department team, including members of EDF R’s Executive
  • Production of development pipeline and general update reports for the EDF R Executive and Board
  • Ownership and updating of various databases and trackers including development pipeline, gate papers, land option and leases and grid connection status
  • Manage the pipeline gate process in conjunction with Development Managers and JV partners to secure appropriate governance sign-off by the Director of D&I
  • Build and maintain a GIS dataset to support development activities
  • Produce high quality site plans in conjunction with development team and external consultants
  • Provide GIS Support to the Development team and wider business units
  • Maintain the Development project information on the EDF R website

 

Wider support to the Onshore Development Team to include, but not limited to:

  • Management of some discrete development work packages
  • Preparation of scope of services and tendering for work packages by external specialist consultants
  • Liaison with EDF R Legal and contractors to agree consultancy contracts

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

(Essential)

Degree or equivalent qualification, other appropriate qualifications may be considered

Qualification or experience in using GIS software (such as QGIS) is essential

Extensive knowledge and experience of Microsoft software including excel, project and powerpoint, as well as developing and managing information via a database

 

(Desirable)

Experience in using Resoft WindFarm for basic LVIA assessments would be an advantage

Knowledge and understanding of renewable energy development, in particular the wind farm planning process and associated environmental and planning constraints

A broad understanding of the Town and Country, and Section 36 planning processes in the UK

Experience in the renewable energy, electricity generation or planning sectors is a distinct advantage

Highly motivated individual with excellent team working skills

Extensive presentational skills using Microsoft software

Good communication and negotiation skills

 

Also required:

Willing to work on projects throughout the UK including short stays away from the office

A commitment to EDF R’s Zero Harm and HSE policies and an understanding of HSE and CDM requirements.
