Environmental Safety Technician

If yes, we currently have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Environmental Safety Technician at our Hartlepool Nuclear Power Station.

 

The Opportunity

 

As an Environmental Safety Technician, you'll leverage your motivation, engagement, and enthusiasm to foster these qualities within the Environmental Safety Group. This varied role involves both teamwork and independent projects, ensuring no two days are the same. Reporting to our Environmental Safety Team Leader, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of Radiological Protection at our station.

 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

We’re offering a salary of £36,067 - £38,219 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience, and qualifications.

What you’ll be doing

 

As an Environmental Safety Technician, you must be 18 years or older and become a classified person under the Ionising Radiation Regulations. After training and authorisation, you'll support regulatory compliance, measure radiation levels, and conduct routine radiation and contamination surveys.

 

You'll assist at contamination-controlled area boundaries, ensure protective clothing is in good order, and manage personnel dosimetry. You'll also set up and maintain radiological measuring equipment, process active waste, and decontaminate small items of plant.

 

Additionally, you'll collect and analyse environmental samples, perform limited radiochemical work, and participate in the nuclear emergency scheme, with suitable remuneration provided.

 

Who you are….

 

As a minimum as well, you will be qualified to GCSE level or higher within relevant fields including mathematics and English. Additional qualifications supporting knowledge in a role like this would be desirable. Previous experience of working within a Radiological Protection environment along with a strong understanding of radiation safety practice in the nuclear field would be desirable.
