As our next Assistant Chemistry Engineer you will be required to understand, control & optimise the operational performance of Torness against our key business objective, safe, reliable, efficient generation, over extended operating lifetime.  The Chemistry Engineers are also required to develop & apply specialist knowledge in the areas of power station chemistry, materials / corrosion science & chemical safety.

 

Reporting to the Hartlepool Power Station Operations department, your core duties involve supporting safe Operation of the asset through monitoring and trending of both reactor gas, steam and feedwater chemical parameters. What you’ll be doing

 

As an Assistant Chemistry Engineer, you will have the following roles and responsibilities during your day to day role:

 

  • Assisting in the management of the sites COSHH programme
  • Monitoring, cross-checking and trending Turbine Generator water and steam chemical process instrumentation
  • Oversight of the Demineralised Water (WTP) and Condensate Polishing Plants (CPP); defect prioritisation and maintenance window support
  • Atmospheric testing of confined spaces
  • Oversight of bulk chemical tanker deliveries
  • Monitoring and controlling generator stator chemistry parameters 
  • Liaising with CCR for issues of chemistry control
  • Investigating anomalies and liaising with CTO Chemistry SQEPs

 

Who you are

 

As a minimum, you will be educated to HNC level or equivalent in Chemistry or a science related discipline. Relevant Highers (Maths and Chemistry) or appropriate industry experience also desirable however, not essential. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel is also required.

 

We are also looking for you to have a flexible approach and the ability to work well as part of a team. Ideally, you would also have previous chemistry laboratory experience.
