The Opportunity
EDF Nuclear New Build (NNB) are in the process of establishing the detailed design of two new Nuclear Power Stations in the UK (Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C).
We are looking for a Structural Integrity Area Manager, to maintain design integrity through enacting the role of intelligent customer, for the specialist area of Structural Integrity which underpins the new reactor design and the safety case.
In this role, you will be required to provide technical advice to Design Authority and NNB on all technical matters relating to Structural Integrity, and key components including, but not limited to, the primary circuit.
You will be responsible for a team of specialists and leaders and will regularly interact with the Responsible Designer (RD) organisation in France and the regulatory authorities in the UK.

What you’ll be doing
In your role, you'll report directly to the Head of Engineering Delivery, managing a team of structural integrity and issue resolution specialists that provide technical input on non-conformances and design changes.
Your role will involve leading projects to mitigate structural integrity risks and providing high-quality technical advice to other parts of NNB and the Design Authority (DA). This advice will support resolving design and safety case issues related to building a fleet of EPR reactors in the UK.
You'll assist in developing the site-specific safety case, offering expert contributions in Structural Integrity, and strong collaboration with NNB, Responsible Designer (RD) Engineering organisations, and regulatory bodies will be key in all Structural Integrity matters.
You'll also specify, manage, and coordinate support from external organisations in the field of Structural Integrity. Additionally, you'll support the Head of Function by driving strategy, resources, processes, business plans, budgets, and activities in the Structural Integrity area.
Who you are
You should be educated to degree level (or have equivalent experience) in a subject relevant to Structural Integrity.
You bring specialist expertise in Structural Integrity, with experience analysing engineering components in the nuclear or another safety-related industry. Your understanding of the UK’s Structural Integrity requirements within the nuclear sector, or equivalent experience from a high-hazard industry, enables you to effectively establish Structural Integrity strategies, and you are proactive and self-motivated, tackling both technical and non-technical tasks with ease.
Your excellent technical writing and communication skills, combined with a proven track record in team leadership, allow you to successfully manage technical risks. You also have a history of effectively engaging stakeholders when it comes to high-value technical risks.
Experience assessing Structural Integrity processes and providing sound advice based on established procedures is beneficial. Experience in specialized areas like Safety Cases, Structural Assessment, Materials, Welding, or Non-Destructive Testing is valuable. Familiarity with RCC-M or ASME III nuclear design codes is a plus.
