The Role

 

 

The Design Authority within the licensee organisation is responsible for maintaining design integrity and the overall safety case throughout the full lifecycle of the nuclear power plant.


As a Safety Case Engineer, you will support the development of the safety case and provide solutions to challenging issues to support the constructing, commissioning, and operation of the new reactors. Fulfilling the Intelligent Customer role on behalf of the licensee, you will have the opportunity to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including the overseas suppliers and UK regulators, on the adequacy of safety case and safety case deliverables in an international project environment.

 


Principal Accountabilities:

 

•    To understand the safety case especially those elements related to safety studies, and in particular internal & external hazards; 
•    Be able to explain to others the general provisions for protection of the power station from faults and hazards;
•    Production or review of design basis safety studies (in particular hazards analysis);
•    To develop or review strategies and methodologies for managing and assessing risks from internal and external hazards;
•    Support the development of processes for safety case management, modification control and configuration control;
•    Manage the production and development of the sections of the site-specific safety case;
•    Work effectively and maintain a strong relationship with the nuclear regulators in the areas of safety case management and the hazards safety case;
•    Co-ordinate the resolution of SZC site specific issues between the SZC project and wider hazards specialists within the EDF group.
•    Co-ordinate support from other external organisations.

Key attributes you will have:

 

•    A motivated, self-starting, dynamic, with the ability to work across multiple disciplines and organisational levels for the development of the safety case; 
•    Ability to pay attention to details and keen to develop professionally;
•    Ability to work on own initiative and apply scientific/technical training to identify and resolve problems;
•    Excellent organisation and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously, and within teams.

 

There is a comprehensive Safety Case training programme as well as Behaviour-led Technical Leadership training available to help you bridge knowledge gaps as well as supporting your growth.

We offer a competitive salary linked to the level of experience within the following bands:

 

•    Professional Entry Level   £29,872 to £64,521 per annum,
•    Managed Professional      £52,393 to £80,655 per annum,

 

In addition we offer a market-leading company pension scheme with a graded company contribution of up to 15% when matched to a personal contribution of to 7.5%, a company incentive bonus plan of up to 5% of annual salary and a range of flexible benefits, such as: health cover, cycle to work scheme, discounted gym membership, discounts and employee pricing.
