What you’ll be doing

Your primary focus will be to support the NG fleet in meeting their statutory Safeguards requirements. This involves close liaison with stations and both internal and external regulators. Additionally, you'll provide support and advice to New Build Stations in developing their Mandatory Nuclear Safeguards Responsibilities. You'll enhance training and Safeguards awareness and respond to emergent issues until they are resolved. Your role will also include supporting areas external to NG and shaping future Safeguards as we approach defueling and decommissioning. Occasional travel may be required.

You will liaise with stations to ensure compliance with Safeguards requirements and respond to emergent issues and requests for advice. Creating and maintaining training packages relevant to Safeguards will be part of your responsibilities. You'll monitor various sources of information that may impact NG's Safeguards responsibilities and liaise with multiple stakeholders, including internal and external regulators.

Providing Safeguards support, advice, and guidance to New Build Projects, such as HPC and potentially SZC, will be essential. You'll also plan and shape the business response to Safeguards in preparation for defueling and decommissioning. Managing, updating, and testing Safeguards-related software, along with handling project management tasks, will be key aspects of your role.

Who you are

You have excellent knowledge of MS Office tools and a good understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle. While familiarity with NG’s Safeguards responsibilities and the NuMAS system is beneficial, it is not essential as training will be provided.

You possess strong organizational skills and the confidence to challenge and provide authoritative advice. You are quick to assimilate new information and proficient with various IT tools. Your excellent communication skills and self-starter attitude make you a valuable asset to the team.

You hold at least an HNC, preferably a degree in Science or Engineering, or an equivalent professional qualification or experience.

Knowledge of Safeguards regulations and NG processes is advantageous. An understanding of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle is beneficial, and experience in a technical, scientific, or commercial role is highly valued.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Clearance which will, ordinarily, require you to have a UK nationality or Citizenship for a minimum of 5 years.
