Inspection Engineer

We are looking for an experienced, self-starting and enthusiastic Inspection Engineer to join us on a permanent basis based at Gloucester Business Park with a mix of home working and travel around the fleet expected.

You will be leading the development of remote inspection and intervention equipment, development of inspection techniques and providing oversight of inspections on our nuclear power stations.

* While this role is working to a flexible location model, you will be required to be in our Gloucester Office a few days a week during initial training.  You will also be expected to support activities on our nuclear power stations.
 

Pay, benefits and culture 

We can offer a competitive salary from £40,069 - £84,892 dependent on experience and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. This is a full-time position, however we will be happy to discuss options regarding part time flexibility and job share if you would like to highlight this on your application.

What you’ll be doing

 
The role is to provide central support to the development of the inspection equipment including writing safety case documentation, contract management support and attending outages at Power Stations to support preparation and deployment of the equipment. The job could develop to focus more significantly on any one of the particular aspects dependent on the aptitude and skill set of the candidate.

Working in the Remote Intervention and Inspection Group, within Structural Integrity Branch, you will be expected to take a lead role in supporting inspection activities on our fleet of nuclear power stations. 

You will be expected to visit power stations and work with station engineers and partner companies to support preparation for and delivery of inspections. The work will potentially involve working at height and will involve working in radiological areas. 
 

As part of the role to develop new techniques, deliver modifications to existing equipment and deliver new equipment, you will be expected to travel to suppliers around the country as required.

Who you are

We are looking for people to develop a career within the Remote Inspection and Intervention Group, which is multidisciplinary, and lead an extended external supply chain to meet fleet demands:

• You will be a self-starting individual with an interest in inspection and developing and using inspection equipment;
• You will have experience of industrial inspections, in selection of the appropriate equipment and techniques to achieve the inspection results required; 
• You will have experience in writing and reviewing procedures, technical justifications, capability statements and the qualification/validation of inspection techniques. 

As this is a vital role, you will ideally:

• Have at least 5 – 10 years relevant experience in developing inspection techniques or in specifying and commissioning new equipment,
• Have PCN / ASNT VT level 2 or 3 qualifications,
• Have the ability to make risk-informed judgements taking into account safety and commercial factors, 
• Have the ability to build effective relationships with operational customers and suppliers, 
• Be, or be capable of becoming a classified radiological worker.

A questioning attitude to ensure all work is undertaken to standards consistent with company safety and quality assurance procedures is essential, as are excellent teamwork and communication skills.
