Electrical Engineer

Our Technical Client Organisation (TCO) is EDF’s centre of technical and licensing excellence supporting the new, future and existing fleet of nuclear power stations. Over time, the TCO will help develop and maintain our technical capacity and expertise across the full lifecycle of UK nuclear activity: from new build through to operation and into decommissioning.


Within the TCO is the PWR Technology function, which supports Hinkley Point C (HPC) and contains the Electrical Branch made up of two teams covering: Equipment, and IEG IED (Building Services). 
 

The Role

 

We’re looking for 2 individuals to join out Equipment  and IEG IED Teams.


As an experienced Electrical Engineer within our Equipment Team you will have previously worked with switchgear, transformers, batteries, chargers, UPS, Field Instrumentation, Diesel Generators and associated electrical protection, synchronising and interlocking schemes of the Electrical Distribution System of HPC

 

The role in our IEG IED Team’s scope work includes cable design and routing, cable containment design, earthing, lightning protection, marshalling, cabinets and boxes, small power and lighting systems, and the layout and installation of some electrical equipment listed above.

 

Specially you’ll be responsible for:

 


•    Providing client accepted engineering design deliverables/design packages to the programme teams, in preparation for site construction
•    Ensuring design integrity is intact throughout the procurement, manufacture, construction, and commissioning cycle; from design to as-built operating plant
•    Providing nuclear safety acceptance of the design, based on a graded approach, scrutinising design deliverables and modifications, according to their nuclear safety significance
•    Ensuring that the requirements relating to nuclear safety for SSCs are defined and adequately addressed within the design
•    Undertaking the Intelligent Customer responsibilities associated with the specification, monitoring and acceptance of design work performed by contractors
•    Assist in resolving technical issues and managing technical risk
•    Ensuring that UK regulation requirements for the design are met
 

The Person

 

Although the roles differ in their scope of works, both require a good knowledge of electrical engineering or system design, equipment specification and procurement and risk identification and management which will be underpinned academically with a degree in a relevant Engineering discipline. 

 

You’ll also be confident with Electricity at work regulations, national and international electrical codes and standards as well as having a working knowledge of CDM.
