What does this Civil Engineering Apprenticeship opportunity offer you?
Civil Engineers provide technical and management input to develop design solutions for complex Civil Engineering problems. You will work as part of a team of Engineers and other construction professionals through all lifecycle stages of development, design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of EDF Engineering projects.
You will use your broad skillset to work in areas including sustainable construction, structural integrity , design, analysis, geotechnics (Engineering behaviour of earth materials), materials, tunnelling, marine and coastal Engineering, water, waste management, flood management.
Your work will cover the following areas within Civil Engineering:
Design and analysis undertaking or reviewing the designs of Reinforced Concrete (RC) and steelwork structures; including seismic analysis and other significant hazards such as impact loading.

Training, development and support for you
This 5-year programme will equip you with thorough theory-based understanding and the practical skills needed for a career as a professional Civil Engineer, taking responsibility for the creation, design, implementation, and management of Civil Engineering projects.
The programme is designed to progress apprentices to IEng registration as part of the apprenticeship End-Point Assessment (EPA), immediately after successful completion of the BEng (hons) degree. This will allow apprenticeship graduates to make accelerated career progression, the future is yours for the taking!
The majority of studies take place in four, two-week blocks, delivered by the University of Exeter. This repeats yearly while on the programme.

Your work location
As part of the Civil Engineering Branch supporting the design and delivery of nuclear classified structures on HPC, SZC and Nuclear Generation projects. Normally you will work from our Gloucester Business Park office but with hybrid working arrangements in place allowing working from home, Hinkley Point C (HPC) Site, as well as our London, Bristol and Glasgow offices.
Who you are
- Five GCSE’s in the A*to C or 9 to 4 range including English, Maths and a Science subject.
- 112 UCAS tariff points; having either at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician.
- Good communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment.
- To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
