Modelling and Data Analyst
We’ve an exciting opportunity to join our Nuclear Decommissioning team, working on modelling and metrics development to deliver efficient defueling operations across our nuclear fleet. If you’re interested in supporting the work on complex, high value (approx £25B) nuclear liabilities and are adept analysing operational performance to provide insightful management information, this may be the role for you.
The Opportunity
Based at Gloucester Business Park as a Modelling & Data Analyst within our Nuclear Decommissioning Team, you will undertake analysis to drive significant improvements in decommissioning our nuclear power stations, saving money for the UK taxpayer and/or EDF. You will be responsible for running logistics models and gaining insights for the programme to defuel our fleet of shut down nuclear reactors. You will have the opportunity to develop and take on additional responsibilities such as developing new tools and models, managing stakeholders for our work, and communicating technical results and complex topics to a wide range of audiences.
Pay, benefits and culture
We can offer a competitive salary from £44,112 to £66,648 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
Flexible working means you can work from home (if you wish) and we’ll provide a suite of IT equipment to ensure that you can work remotely comfortably and effectively. You will likely need to be in our Gloucester offices at 1-2 days per week, but we would be happy to discuss this at interview stage.

What you’ll be doing
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Identifying through ‘operational research’ innovative solutions potential operational bottlenecks and weaknesses that could deliver significant value to the UK tax payer and / or EDF
- Providing modelling and analysis expertise across Nuclear Decommissioning to enable the creation of financial submissions in support of major business investment decisions.
- Supporting NLFA processes that require modelling (station targets, risk reviews, operational change assessments) – the results of which will commit the company to formal targets with HM government
- Liaising with stakeholders who own modelling assumptions including assembling presentation packs and capturing outputs from meetings to ensure that the results are correct and coherent across all products to a standard set by the government auditors
In addition to this, there will be opportunity to develop software/coding/Business Intelligence/Excel skills to fit in with the technologies we commonly use.
Who you are
You should be qualified to degree Level standard in a relevant subject such as Engineering, Science or Mathematics. You’ll need to be a proficient user of Microsoft Office products (in particular Excel), as well as either experience or the desire to learn basic coding. Experience using Java/VBA would be advantageous, but not essential.
Good attention to detail and the ability work to a high standard in a timely way is important. You must also be able to clearly communicate key messages and pitch such communication at the appropriate level for the audience, meaning you can ensure engagement and understanding of messages posed using open questioning, active listening and observing. Engagement with technical leads to establish and develop high quality management information will be essential. Experience of working in an engineering or data/software environment would be an advantage.
